Weekly Round up

It was lovely to see so many parents and carers in the academy this week for Parent Consultation meetings. We hope that you enjoyed seeing all the learning that your children have been doing and discussing their progress with their teachers. Thank you to everyone who undertook the parental questionnaire; we will feed back the results in the near future.

On Tuesday, our Nursery children had a wonderful experience going to Darlington Hippodrome to watch “Tales from Acorn Wood”. It was a long day and they were a credit to the academy.

1T were able to participate in a Fundamental Movement Skills Festival at Eston Leisure Centre on Wednesday which was a great opportunity to work with other schools.

Y6 were very proud to present their class assembly linked to their History topic of World War II. This was followed up on Friday when the whole school showed their respect on Remembrance Day by undertaking a 2 minutes silence at 11 o’clock. We also welcomed visitors in for B2S’s parental engagement afternoon.

We had our first week of swimming at Saltburn Swimming baths and 5H were the first year group to practice this essential skill each afternoon this week.

Another busy week is coming up with Anti-Bullying week being promoted throughout school with an Odd Socks Day on Monday where children wear odd socks to celebrate their individuality. It is also Children in Need Day on Friday where Children can dress up in Pudsey themed clothing by going spotty, dressing in yellow or even coming as your favourite superhero. There will be buckets at each entrance for any donations to this popular charity.

Class Showcase

This week, our featured classes are Nursery, RB and B1R, so please enjoy reading what they have been learning about.

Nursery

Nursery have really enjoyed their trip to the Theatre to watch ‘Tales from Acorn Woods’. We were all excited to set off on the big coach and were amazed by the beautiful setting of the Theatre.

Our favorite part was when Fox lost his Socks! All the children were so well behaved and we had a great afternoon out!

Reception

Reception visited Westfield Farm on Monday 10th October.  The children had an amazing time picking and carving pumpkins with the support of the staff. We looked for signs of autumn in the beautiful garden.

B1R

Last week, the children in B1R learned all about the festival Diwali. We learned how Hindu people celebrated the Festival of Light and why they celebrated. To celebrate ourselves, we made colourful Rangoli patterns using coloured rice, we used our fine motor skills to thread sparkly pipe cleaners to make a firework and we created lots of fantastic firework pictures.

Marvellous Me

You will notice that teachers are sending lots of Marvellous Me messages to share your child’s achievements.  We would be really grateful if you would “High 5” the messages to show that you have received them.  Also, please ask your children about what they have been doing in class as they would love to tell you.

Headstart

We are proud to share the letter we received to confirm out Gold HeadStart award:

Lunch Menu

Next weeks menu will be Week 3

Awesome Attendance

Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

Which class will be the first to receive that treat?

The ATTENDANCE WINNERS this week are B1R with 100%

Missed Learning

23 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

Attendance Reporting on School Gateway

As you will be aware we are using a new app service called School Gateway to communicate with parents. You can now report your child’s absence through the app. If we have not heard from you, we will be sending out attendance messages which you can reply to, which will come directly to the team.
