Welcome to Dormanstown Primary Academy!

I am delighted to welcome you to our website. As the Headteacher of Dormanstown Primary Academy, I feel privileged to lead this school,  particularly as I was a former resident of Dormanstown from 1986 to 1988. It’s an honour to serve this community and oversee many of the strategic decisions that shape our school’s future.

At Dormanstown Primary, we are incredibly proud of our dedicated staff who go above and beyond every single day to provide the best education for our children. Each member of our team is committed to ensuring every pupil reaches their full potential, both academically and personally. We expect the highest of standards from our staff, from our pupils and expect our pupils to attend school every day, from Nursery enrolment.

Our school’s ethos is built on the values of Inspiration, Aspiration, Collaboration, and Celebration, which are embodied in our school logo. These values guide the way we work, both with our pupils and within our school community. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone is valued, and all achievements are celebrated. This fosters a positive, happy atmosphere where children feel supported to take risks, grow, and achieve their very best.

We are a school that truly values the importance of community and support, and the best way to get a sense of the family atmosphere, is to visit us. We try to support our families beyond pupils’ education, through our community farm shop and through partnerships with other agencies both off and brought onto the school site, to ensure they are accessible for our families. Our mission, to transform lives.

As a Tees Valley Education School, we are fortunate to benefit from a wide range of resources and experiences our children would not otherwise benefit from. We teach a rigorous curriculum, have meaningful partnerships with all four of our partner schools for both staff and all pupils and bring our children beyond the school gates so they can build cultural capital. Inclusion, pastoral support and equity of life chances are some of the biggest areas of practice and strength across the Trust.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Mrs Antje Kell

WOW! Lego club had a superb day at Redcar College today. Today was the culmination of all of their hard work in the First Lego League Challenge 24/5 which is a robotics and life skills challenge for pupils aged between 9 and 16. There are four equally weighted strands to the competition: The Innovation Project, The Robot Game, Robot Design and Core Values.
This is a superb STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programme and I am so pleased that DPA staff are so generous with their time after school to give our pupils these opportunities!!

Watch out for Lego League club next year!

Dormanstown Primary Academy Opens New Farm Shop and Refill Station!

On Tuesday 18th March, Dormanstown Primary Academy had the pleasure of welcoming Councillor Neil Bendelow, the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland 24/5, to officially open their long-awaited farm shop and its new refill section. This exciting initiative is the result of hard work by the school's Year 6 junior leaders, who have taken charge of planning, stocking, pricing, packaging, and promoting the shop’s products over the past two terms.

The farm shop, which features a range of locally sourced goods and Fareshare produce, is a culmination of a collaborative effort between the school and Ruth from Ecologico, with funding from Business in the Community. The project aims to teach pupils about business management, sustainability, and the importance of community involvement. In addition to selling fresh and ambient items, the shop now offers a refill station, where families can purchase sustainable products like oats, broth mix, rice, washing-up liquid, and conditioner, to name a few. The introduction of refillable items is a step towards reducing single-use plastics and providing environmentally conscious options for families.

The opening ceremony, attended by Councillor Bendelow, celebrated the pupils' achievement and their dedication to creating a shop that not only benefits the school but also promotes sustainability. Dormanstown Primary Academy’s farm shop and refill station are sure to become a valuable resource for the school community, offering fresh, affordable goods and helping to build a greener future for all.

Thank you 😊

What an incredible visit to PD Ports Year 5 and S4 had. It was fantastic to see children engaging and learning about the work of PD ports and some of the careers that are possible through the work of their organisation -working on cranes, cargo handling and logistics. This is part of our Classroom to Careers project. Next week, Year 6 will be visiting AV Dawson as part of the same project.

Oh my days I’d love to do that !

Last Thursday, a group of year 5 Power of Women ambassadors visited the Cummins Engine Plant in Darlington. The trip provided the children with a unique opportunity to explore the world of engineering, manufacturing, and innovation. We were provided with a guided tour of the manufacturing floor, providing opportunity to see various machinery and highly skilled engineers at work. We learnt all about the company’s history, it’s global impact and the significant role that the Darlington plant plays in producing low emission engines. Our visit also included a learning session where we were able to engage with interactive activities. Overall, the visit to the Cummins Engine Plant was an inspiring and educational experience. It provided the children valuable insights into the world of engineering.

We are so proud to have been nominated and invited to the RCBC Mayor's Community Achievement Awards 24/25 at the Council Chambers last night.
These six pupils, who form our JLT (Junior Leadership Team), led by the fabulous Mrs Sherwood, have been exemplary in forming and shaping our farm shop and soon to launch, eco-refill products. Did you know: Between 70-100 people visit our farm shop every week!

We are so proud of you all!
