Weekly Round up

Welcome back to the second half of the Spring Term! The nights are getting shorter, the temperature is rising (a bit!) and we are delighted to be back with another fun-packed week at Dormanstown!

The highlight of our week has been World Book Day! It is always amazing to see how fantastic the children look in their character-inspired costumes, and we are in awe of some of our family’s design skills – the children looked incredible!

We had lots of reading activities throughout school, from library sessions to reading-inspired baking and book quizzes, as well as giving out the £1 vouchers to all children. We are also delighted to launch our reading podcast, which you can listen to on Spotify by following the link at the bottom of this page.

Reading forms a hugely important part of our school day, and to celebrate children’s love for books and their obvious enthusiasm for reading has been a great way to start our new half term!

Watch this space for more events, dates and information in the upcoming weeks.

Class Showcase

This week it’s Early years as Nursery, Reception and B1R show us what they’ve been doing.

Nursery

This week Nursery enjoyed celebrating world book day and played lots of games around our favourite stories. We have also started our new story of Jack and the Bean Stalk.

We have lots of exciting things planned around planting and new life this half term.

Reception

Reception children have been learning about homes and toys in the past.  The children have had fun role- playing how people lived in the past in the domestic role-play area and they have been exploring old and new toys in our toy museum.

B1R

This week, B1R have been reading the story The Gingerbread Man.

On Monday, we pretended to be the old woman from the story, and we made some of our own delicious gingerbread men. We then decorated them on Wednesday using icing, raisins and smarties.

When we came to school on Thursday morning, the gingerbread men had gone! The children created their own wanted posters, and we put them up around school to let everyone know to keep a look out.

Thankfully, Mr Mount found the gingerbread men hiding in the library, and we were able to enjoy them as a tasty treat before home time.

Awesome Attendance

Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

Which class will be the first to receive that treat?

This weeks winners are……..

Missed Learning

19 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.
