Weekly Round up

What a busy week we’ve had!

As you are aware we had some very special visitors in academy this week and we would like to pass on a huge thank you to our whole school community for your support, honesty and involvement in our Ofsted visit. Outcomes will be shared as soon as the report is published, and whilst we are unable to share results until this happens, we are incredibly grateful to all our families who were involved, either through face-to-face discussions, online surveys or supporting your child in their learning.

On that note the children were amazing! We are so proud of all our students who represented the school so well. They were observed, interviewed, their behaviour discussed and their books studied by our inspection team, who noted how wonderful they all were! It was a ringing endorsement of the hard work our whole school community continue to do that the team were able to give such positive feedback on our students.

Next week we have a full and action-packed week planned again, so please do check in on our social media page to see what we have been up to – and a final thank you again for your ongoing support from all the staff.

Class Round up

It’s time to see what Year 1, Year 2 and Class B2 have been up to.

Year 1

The year 1 children have worked really hard so far this half term.

In the last few weeks we have been learning about the artist Iris Scott.

We practiced mark making using a range of objects and mixing colours to turn them lighter and darker. We also took pictures of things that inspired is in our playground and made a sketch from these pictures. For our final piece we have been inspired by Iris Scott’s poppy/flower collection.

As a whole class we agreed that it would be nice as we have just had Remembrance Day at school. The children looked at pictures of poppies, then carefully sketched an outline of their main focus.

As we were inspired by Iris Scott we decided we should use our fingers o paint just like she does.  So far, we have added red, green and black to our painting.

Next week we will be completing the background. The children are really excited to have a finished piece.

Year 2

Year 2 have been learning all about the famous artist, Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

We have been exploring a range of media, including oil pastels, crayons and felt pens to draw circles, spirals and patterns, all in the style of this artist!

Hundertwasser was also an architect, designing many interesting and colourful buildings.

We worked together to create a ‘Hundertwasser Dormanstown,’ decorating the houses of Dormanstown with colourful patterns.

Class B2

Wow! What an exciting time that we had over the last few weeks.

First off, we have been reading the story, ‘We’re Going on A Bear Hunt.’ Then, found some bear prints and we went on a bear hunt.

We walked around the school and outside. We had to squelch in some mud and we finally found a scary bear.

In Art, we have been looking at Iris Scott. She is an artist who uses her fingers to create some magnificent art work.

We created some poppy landscape pictures in the style of Iris Scott.

Attendance

Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

Which class will be the first to receive that treat?

Missed Learning

41.5 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 199 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week. A huge WELL DONE to you all 😊

Can you get 100% next week?

Missed Appointments

We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy.

Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances.

If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible.

Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
