Dear Parents/ Carers,
I can’t believe Friday has come around so quickly. It has been such a productive week! We have had many important visitors in school this week and we have celebrated so much joyful learning across school.
This week in my blog I have included some photos from Nursery and Year 1. Each week I will focus on a different phase.
Nursery have come back to school in the new year and each week they are focusing on a new sound. This week’s is ‘a’ – can you support their learning by hunting for objects that begin with this initial sound?
In Year 1 they are being curious about Queen Elizabeth and her role and why she was important. They have been learning about Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament and in the coming weeks will learn about the Commonwealth, The Royal Family and how laws are decided on and made. You could support your child by having some early conversations with them so that they have some knowledge to share in their class discussions.
In the coming weeks, we are holding a Reception parents phonics meeting. The details of this will follow in a letter. We will hold it straight after dropping off and the kitchen will kindly provide bacon sandwiches. Every family that attends will leave with a pack of phonics resources to support your child further at home, so that we are working together to ensure that your child meets their full potential. These sessions are very important, and we hope that ALL families can attend. We will welcome all parents/ carers/ grandparents/ aunts/ uncles as appropriate.
If you have visited our farm shop recently, you may have noticed, that we have opened a ‘lending library’ for parents and carers in the community. Please do take or donate a book as you would like to when visiting the farm shop. You may have also seen our re-fill items coming into stock – from dried foods such as pasta and granola to household products, the Year 6 junior leadership team will be writing to you with details of the launch event they will be hosting very soon. Please do visit us if you have not already. We are now registered with Amazon Multibank and alongside our 6 food items for £2 we also have a range of Amazon health care products that are available for free. In the coming weeks, you can expect nappies, pull ups, wipes, deodorants, body wash to name just a few.
Thank you for all of your support.
Best Wishes and be safe.
Mrs Kell
Do you know the school now uses Class Dojo? This is a great service for parents/carers to see what the children get up to daily at school.
It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.
The children are also scored for meeting the Values we hold closely at Dormanstown Primary of Inspiration, Aspiration, Collaboration and Celebration
Also just a reminder that the Academy still uses School Gateway for any messages to be sent to the school. This includes Attendance, medical appointments and general questions.
Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.
Which class will be the first to receive that treat?
39 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.
This week we had 212 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Brilliant!!
A huge WELL DONE to you all.
Can you get 100% next week?
We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
Menu choices from next week will be from Week 1.
A reminder to all parents we are a Nut Free Academy, please read below.
Halfway through the month and there are still plenty of actions you can take to have a Happier January.

Through working in partnership with the Woodsmith Foundation, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting Citizens Advice on school site every Tuesday during term time this academic year.
We all face problems that seem complicated or intimidating. Citizens Advice believe that no one should have to face these problems without good quality, independent advice. That’s why they’re here: to give our families the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward. Citizens Advice recognise that this time of year can be tough for many people, so we hope that our families take advantage of this fantastic resource on our doorstep.
Citizens Advice are able to support families with benefits, work, debt and money challenges – from understanding your welfare rights, to debt management, to completing DLA applications.
