What an exciting and action packed eight weeks it has been. I know both staff and pupils are very tired and ready for this break. I hope everyone has a well-deserved rest from all of their hard efforts this half term!
A huge thank you to parents that contributed to our Reception/ Year 1 and Year 2 disco, all pupils were invited on the day, and I heard lots of pupils chatting about how it had been, ‘The best day ever!’ A huge thank you to Mega Stars for hosting a fabulous disco and party games and for your parental support to allow the event to run. A big thank you to all of the staff that stayed back late to support at the KS2 disco and to all of the children that attended for their fabulously frightening Halloween costumes and excellent behaviour.
Another thank you must go to our kitchen and lunch time supervision team for a super lunch ‘experience’ on Thursday – we were so proud of the children for eating pink rice and green mash!! They were so brave and adventurous but soon realised that it tasted exactly the same. The staff in this school community really do go above and beyond for our children every day and this is a great example of that.
This week your child (ren) may have come home telling you about their first visit to the Dojo shop! As you know this year, Dojos are the way in which we positively reward pupils for living our school values of Aspiration, Collaboration, Inspiration and Celebration across the whole school, at all ages. Pupils earn Dojos for working together, influencing others positively, using their manners, focusing on their learning, for always doing their best, for being ready to learn, for keeping themselves and others safe, to name a few.
Each half term pupils have the opportunity to ‘redeem’ their points by ‘spending’ their Dojos if they had met the first threshold or saving their points over the term/ terms/ year to aim for one of the prizes on the higher shelves. I was so impressed that so many pupils have chosen to save. Check out our brand new KS1 and KS2 Dojo shops below:
We are so grateful to the Tees Foundation that had given us £2500 to further develop or community farm shop and refill station – we hope that this work will be complete by the end of the year. Please follow our blog for more exciting developments.
This week, the first batch of our new handwriting pens were awarded in our Pot of Gold assembly. The improvement in presentation from the start of the school year is noticeable in all classes. These first pupils have set the ‘Dormanstown standard’. We look forward to giving out more pens in the future!
In the first week back after half term we have the amazing Dave Draws joining us to create our ‘Dormanstown’ and the surrounding area mural. He will be leading workshops for pupils in Year 3 ,4 ,5 and 6. We are so grateful for the extensive list you worked on to support us in building an outline of the map and the places and buildings that are significant to you. Dave Draws is on Facebook for those families that wish to follow some of his previous work around the globe.

Do you know the school now uses Class Dojo? This is a great service for parents/carers to see what the children get up to daily at school.
It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.
The children are also scored for meeting the Values we hold closely at Dormanstown Primary of Inspiration, Aspiration, Collaboration and Celebration
Also just a reminder that the Academy still uses School Gateway for any messages to be sent to the school. This includes Attendance, medical appointments and general questions.
S3 had a wonderful afternoon with their parents and carers by taking part in a Geography parental engagement session.
The children flew around Europe to discover new facts about France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
It was brilliant to see the children so engaged in their learning as they investigated capital cities of each country and their languages.
S3 also tried new food which originated from each country and drew their own flags.
On Tuesday, our KS2 choir performed at the TVED Autumn Choir Festival at Guisborough Priory. They performed a range of songs from traditional songs to iconic pop tunes by Taylor Swift. For our Year 3 pupils, this was their first choir event, and we were so proud of their behaviour and how they represented the academy.
Well done to all pupils, for singing so beautifully. Our choir meet once a week and show immense dedication in learning new songs, and their hard work shone through at the festival. A huge thanks to Mr Nixon and Miss Smuk for organising the event and helping our choir grow from strength to strength.

This week, the Fire Service visited the academy to run special assemblies for our KS1 children and our KS2 children. The Fire Safety officers spoke about the importance of keeping safe on Bonfire Night and we talked about how to be safe around fireworks.
The children all listened really well and understand that they should all be with an adult when they attend a firework display. A huge thank you to the Fire Service for attending and delivering the session for us.
Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

30.5 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.
This week we had 202 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Brilliant!!

Can you get 100% when we return?
We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
When we return after Half-term it will be week 1.

Redcar junior parkrun takes place in Locke Park every Sunday morning at 9.00 a.m. and is a 2km double loop of the park. Anyone ages 4 to 14 years old can walk, jog and run the event and they welcome volunteers of all ages.
Junior parkrun’s are family friendly, community events set up to encourage children and their families to enjoy exercising in open spaces. It free to attend but participants are asked to register before they first come along at the parkrun website register | parkrun UK and bring a copy of their barcode to the event to receive a timed result.
Event Director Michelle Shaw is looking to expand the current pool of core volunteers and Run Directors and anyone who is interested in finding out more about what this entails should contact her at redcarjuniors@parkrun.com

Lollipops have a preloved rail out on the shop floor with various items on including polo tops, trousers, sweatshirts/cardigans, shoes, plimsolls, summer dresses etc. All items on the rail are free for anyone to take, they just ask for customers to be considerate of others when taking items. There is a box for anyone who would like to make donations which we then add to the rail.
