On Monday, KS2 had an assembly from Rita Richardson (Schools Education Co-ordinator from Cleveland Fire Service) to speak about the dangers of fire setting in the community and encouraging everyone to stay safe. 3S had a very enjoyable visit to the Tees Barrage and were lucky enough to be the first to visit on a school trip over the last two years. We were very proud of the academy choirs this week who participated in the Trust Easter Service at St Nicholas’ Church, Guisborough: The Trust would like to say thank you to all children who performed and all parents/carers who attended. Nursery have enjoyed seeing their eggs hatch and the chicks grow and develop so much over the last week; they have certainly been a hot topic of conversation amongst our EYFS children!
This week, our featured classes are 3S, 4HM and B3G, so please enjoy reading what they have been up to.
This week Year 3 headed out to Tees Barrage on a trip to support their history topic. We had an amazing time, and worked with The Canals and Rivers Trust to learn more about the history of the river, why it is so important to our area and also how the water has been changed over time.
We created our own sand rivers, thinking carefully about where we would place towns, industry and bridges. During lunchtime we headed down to the water to do some nature spotting. Half of the class were lucky enough to see a grey seal swimming in the water.
In the afternoon we were invited up into the control tower, where we given the chance to open the river gates, raise bridges and operate the monitoring cameras.
The trip was a huge success, and all the Year 3 staff were incredibly proud of all the children for their attitudes and behaviour.
Over the last couple of weeks, in DT Year 4 have been completing work all about recyclable materials. We planned, designed and created our own, ‘plastic flower wall’ for the balcony we thought hard about how we could use single use plastics that would usually go to landfill to achieve this.
This term B3G have been focusing on space. A workshop was carried out via zoom where the children learnt about the Webb Space telescope and then create a card which reflected the awe and beauty of the planets, stars and galaxies that can be seen in space.
Let us know if you need your “join up” code to hear about the great things your children are getting up to in school.
Next week’s menu is week 3 and to celebrate Easter the desert options will be slightly different.

Congratulations to 3S who have won our Awesome competition this week.
Please remember to phone the academy if your child is going to be absent and remember the importance of excellent attendance at school.
Practicing times tables is so important in improving maths and is a huge part of number work from Year 2 upwards. Please encourage your child to use their account to get as fast as they can which will help them be able to apply their knowledge to different areas of maths.
