Monday’s assembly was based on Random Acts of Kindness Week, and we asked children and staff to really demonstrate how they could show kindness to others. We wanted this to be replicated every day and not just for this week. Our Character Education theme continued with respect.
This week, our featured classes are 1M, 2T and B2S, so enjoy reading what they have been up to.
Thank you for your support this half term and let’s hope, that as we move into spring, we can look towards more settled times again. We hope everyone has a lovely, restful holiday, and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the academy on Monday 28th February.
As of Monday, 28th February we will have a new Main Entrance into school. This is located at the old Community Entrance and should be used for parents requiring the school office.
Our two Ambassadors, alongside Mrs Sherwood, represented the academy at Teesside University to launch this important project. They undertook lots of activities with children from the other academies as well as speaking in front of a large audience about why they chose to be an ambassador and what they hoped to achieve for themselves and others in the academy. We were so proud of the contributions they made.
On the first Thursday back after the holidays, it will be World Book Day, celebrating its 25th Anniversary. The children can come dressed in their favourite book character and bring the book to school with them.
Mellors are also putting on a special World Book Day lunch menu to further celebrate characters from children’s literature:
We thank all parents/carers who are getting their children to school at the correct time. If you have had to complete a late slip, please set off a few minutes earlier or work with your child to get them there on time. If you require any support, please contact Mrs Sherwood or a member of the pastoral team. Please remember that the start time for all children after the holidays is 8.40am. Children should enter school through their normal doors, Price Road gates will be locked at 8:45am and Plaza doors will close at 8:50am. After this time, children need to enter through the new Main Entrance (old Community Entrance).
This week our children learnt how to programme a beebot, instructing it to move forwards and backwards. We also enjoyed reading in the library. This was a class treat for getting the highest percentage of home reading AGAIN!
Year 2 have had a very busy week. In English, we have been writing our own poems liked to ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ week. As a class, we created a kindness acrostic poem. In maths, we have been measuring. We have used the balance scales and metre sticks to weigh/ measure classroom objects. Lastly, in Art, we have been colour mixing. It has been a very busy week!
What a busy week we have had in B2S!
On Monday we went on a bus to Pennyman Primary Academy for our Easter Service Choir Rehearsal. We enjoyed singing lots of Easter songs with Mr Nixon and other children from our Trust Academies. It was great to come together and learn some actions to our new songs.
In maths this week, we have looked at measuring using non-standard units of measure. The children were very busy measuring around the classroom using pens, scissors, cubes and counters.
As part of Mental Health Awareness week, the children enjoyed finding out about healthy eating. They made a wonderful fruit salad which they throughly enjoyed eating!
Today we have had a fantastic afternoon in class enjoying our Pizza Party for achieving 100% attendance for 7 weeks which spelt out AWESOME. Well done, B2S.
Please see below for your new menus, starting Monday 28th February. We will start on week 1!
Congratulations to B1R who have won our Awesome competition this week.
Please remember to phone the academy if your child is going to be absent and remember the importance of excellent attendance at school.
Practicing times tables is so important in improving maths and is a huge part of number work from Year 2 upwards. Please encourage your child to use their account to get as fast as they can which will help them be able to apply their knowledge to different areas of maths.
