What a wonderful end to the term it has been, highlighted by the Year 6 visit to Peat Rigg. The children have had many new experiences and made fantastic memories that they will remember for years to come. Thank you to Mr Mount and Miss Arkless for giving the children this opportunity.
It has been an emotional day in the academy today as we say goodbye to Mrs McFarlane as she takes early retirement after nearly 27 years at Dormanstown. I am sure you would like to join us in thanking her for EVERYTHING she has done for all the children, families, staff members and the community during her career, and we wish her every happiness for the future.
We would like to thank all parents/carers for your support over the last term, and we hope you all have a very happy Easter holiday. We look forward to seeing you back in the academy on Monday 25th April.
This week in year 5 we have been working hard to combat climate change. In teams of 4 we created eco-gardens, specifically designed to reduce CO2 in the Atmosphere.
The children in Y6 and Y5/6M have been learning about the true meaning of Easter, and why we celebrate this Christian festival. In art, we have been thinking about rebirth and growth, and we looked at the season of Spring; the children then produced their own piece of artwork to celebrate a colourful spring meadow. They used the following media: brusho and oil pastels.
If you have booked places at the Easter Club this next week, the children will come into the academy and be collected via the main entrance. We look forward to seeing the children at the sessions: morning sessions are 9.30am until 12 noon and afternoon sessions 12.30 until 3pm.
Choir members will be attending Young Voices in Sheffield on the 28th April, and we can’t wait for the children to experience singing in an arena setting.
We will start back on Week 1 after the Easter Holidays.
Congratulations to B2S who have won our Awesome competition this week with 98% attendance.
Practicing times tables is so important in improving maths and is a huge part of number work from Year 2 upwards. Please encourage your child to use their account to get as fast as they can which will help them be able to apply their knowledge to different areas of maths.
