This Harvest, as well as bringing in tins & dried goods to support our local food bank, you can also get involved in our new Fruit/Veg animal competition!
If you would like to take part, bring your entry in on Friday 4th October (no earlier please) into your childs classroom. All entries will be moved to the main entrance throughout the morning and judged for Dojo points for ‘Inspiration’ and ‘Aspiration’. Parents will be able to see all the entries as you come into join us for our annual Harvest Festival that afternoon.

Do you know the school now uses Class Dojo? This is a great service for parents/carers to see what the children get up to daily at school.
It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.
The children are also scored for meeting the Values we hold closely at Dormanstown Primary of Inspiration, Aspiration, Collaboration and Celebration
This week, Year 3 and 4 attended an orienteering scavenger hunt at Redcar Rugby Club. This was to help us to develop our perseverance and determination and improve our map reading and problem-solving skills
In English, Year 4 are looking at dark and twisted fairy tales. We have started reading an incredible book called Zombierella!! It is a twist on the traditional tale of Cinderella and we are hooked.
S3 have had a very busy few weeks! They have settled back into school brilliantly and have loved taking part in our new challenge areas.
In Science, we have been learning about electricity. The children have enjoyed learning about electrical symbols and what a simple circuit needs. They have then planned and created their own circuits with different purposes such as turning lightbulbs on.
In Art, we have been focusing learning about the artist Antony Gormley. S3 have been fascinated with his interesting sculptures and were able to identify his key pieces.
The children have been practicing new techniques using clay which they will use to make their own sculptures.
It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged in their learning!
Thank you to all the Y6 Parents and Carers who attended school yesterday for the parental engagement session. The children enjoyed sharing their recent Art work, inspired by Barbara Hepworth, and working collaboratively with their grownups to create their own sculptures made out of clay.
The children were able to confidently apply some of the techniques they had been practicing to their final pieces and should feel proud of their achievements. We are sure you will agree that their sculptures are quite impressive!
Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

37 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.
This week we had 200 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Amazing!!

We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.

Redcar junior parkrun takes place in Locke Park every Sunday morning at 9.00 a.m. and is a 2km double loop of the park. Anyone ages 4 to 14 years old can walk, jog and run the event and they welcome volunteers of all ages.
Junior parkrun’s are family friendly, community events set up to encourage children and their families to enjoy exercising in open spaces. It free to attend but participants are asked to register before they first come along at the parkrun website register | parkrun UK and bring a copy of their barcode to the event to receive a timed result.
Event Director Michelle Shaw is looking to expand the current pool of core volunteers and Run Directors and anyone who is interested in finding out more about what this entails should contact her at redcarjuniors@parkrun.com

Lollipops have a preloved rail out on the shop floor with various items on including polo tops, trousers, sweatshirts/cardigans, shoes, plimsolls, summer dresses etc. All items on the rail are free for anyone to take, they just ask for customers to be considerate of others when taking items. There is a box for anyone who would like to make donations which we then add to the rail.
