Weekly Round Up

Happy Friday Parents/ Carers/ members of the DPA community

This week our Year 6 visited Peat Rigg – A huge thank you to the staff that accompanied them and to you for ensuring they had everything they needed and to the pupils themselves for their resilience, behaviour and positive attitude to everything. They were a joy to be with! The staff all spoke of how proud they were of all of our children. Residentials are a huge part of your child’s primary school experience, and we hope they came home full of wonderful stories of all the fun things they had done/ tried for the first time- these are memories that last a lifetime. I am also thrilled that we had almost 100% attendance on return to school. I know they will all sleep well over the weekend! Hundreds of photographs have been taken (Wi-Fi wasn’t very favourable, and so many of them were not uploaded at the time) and Miss Alderson plans will share her plan to share these with the Year 6 families. Further details to follow.

You child/ren may have already come home telling you about our improved breakfast offer. We are delighted to work with Beyond Housing who have funded a Greggs breakfast for every child across the school for the 2024/5 academic year.

Breakfast options now include toast with jam, butter or marmalade, Frubes, fruit and smoothies!

We are always looking for ways to celebrate our area. In early November, we are welcoming an artist in residence on site for 4 consecutive days to work alongside KS2 pupils and to engage with the whole school community to doodle a huge map of Dormanstown and the surrounding areas. His name is ‘Dave Draws’, @DaveDraws, www.davedraws.co.uk, and he uses Posca pens for his murals. His work can be seen all across Europe, the USA and in Hong Kong! His work will give us the opportunity to talk about and focus on key landmarks in our locality. Each class has been tasked with collecting a list of all of the landmarks important to them that they would like represented on our map. If we don’t list it; we risk it not appearing. Please take the time to discuss with your child the landmarks that you feel as a family it is essential that we see on our map.

Thank you for your support with this exciting project.

Have a lovely weekend.

An example of Dave’s work (@DaveDraws) . This gives you an idea of just how brilliant our mural will look.

Class Dojo

Do you know the school now uses Class Dojo? This is a great service for parents/carers to see what the children get up to daily at school.

It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.

The children are also scored for meeting the Values we hold closely at Dormanstown Primary of Inspiration, Aspiration, Collaboration and Celebration

Nursery

Wow, nursery have really explored our creative side this week. We started the week learning about the artist Jackson Pollock. We loved painting using his unique ‘drip technique’. We will be continuing our learning about Jackson Pollock in the coming weeks. Watch out for some amazing artwork!

We have also been talking a lot about families and ourselves, so we decided to put our new oven to the test. We made some delicious gingerbread children. They were extremely tasty. Junior bake off – here we come!

Finally, we would like to say hello and welcome Dormanstown to all of our lovely new starters and their families this week!

Reception

Reception have had a very exciting week learning all about ‘The Colour Monster’! We have talked all about our feelings, why they are important and how they affect our behaviour.

We developed our colour knowledge by learning about the colour wheel and creating colour wheel collages. We also made our very own Colour Monster Cookies!

Attendance

Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

Which class will be the first to receive that treat?

This weeks winners are………

Missed Learning

49 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 198 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Brilliant!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% next week?

Missed Appointments

We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
