Weekly Round Up

There have been so many fabulous things happening at school this week. Today’s blog will show you some of those highlights. It has been a very busy week at Dormanstown.

The children have had a blast taking part in National Poetry Day, writing their own poems to then read to their friends and teachers.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Macmillan Coffee Morning. Thank you to the mysterious person who left these in the school office for us.

We weren’t able to catch you to thank you in person. They’re brilliant! But next time you visit, please wipe your feet – you left muddy, swampy footprints all through our school!

We managed to raise a total of £100.73 for Macmillan Cancer Support! Thank you so much to everyone who came and donated not just money but the cakes as well.

Class Dojo

Do you know the school now uses Class Dojo? This is a great service for parents/carers to see what the children get up to daily at school.

It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.

The children are also scored for meeting the Values we hold closely at Dormanstown Primary of Inspiration, Aspiration, Collaboration and Celebration

Also just a reminder that the Academy still uses School Gateway for any messages to be sent to the school. This includes Attendance, medical appointments and general questions.

Year 5

What a fantastic week it has been in Year 5! The children have truly embraced a myriad of activities, making every day exciting and engaging. One of the highlights has undoubtedly been our chess sessions with Mr Edmunds. This term, Year 5 have really been enjoying getting to grips with the game. We started our journey by learning about each piece and their unique moves, and we’ve now advanced to playing full games, putting all that knowledge into practice. It’s wonderful to see so much strategy and critical thinking emerging as they engage with one another on the chessboard!

In PE, the pupils have been busy participating in a range of activities that focus on movement, balance, and coordination. It’s a joy to watch them develop their skills while having a blast with their friends—there’s never a dull moment!

In Maths, we’ve been exploring the world of numbers with a focus on prime and composite numbers. The children have shown incredible curiosity and determination in identifying these numbers, building a solid foundation for their future learning.

As a grand finale to the week, the children have just completed an excellent piece of fiction writing based on ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell, set in the captivating Amazon rainforest. Their creativity has truly shone through, with imaginative tales that transport readers into the heart of the jungle.

What an exciting week in Year 5! Bring on next week!

Year 6

This week, pupils have enjoyed writing their final piece in English which has been a newspaper report about the declaration of World War II.

The sequence of learning included learning about Neville Chamberlain and the events leading up to World War II.  In English lessons, the children have been exploring different headlines and how to report speech.

They have also been learning to write an introduction, main body and conclusion.  When they brought everything together, the final pieces of work were outstanding.  The children should feel very proud of their hard work and the presentation of their books!

Class S4

What a fab start S4, to the new academic year.

All children have worked hard in both English and maths. We have started with Art, creating wonderful abstract pieces that reflect relationship, with the influence of Barbara Hepworth.

Here we have worked with form, using playdough to practice shaping a medium and used clay for our final piece.

Science has us looking closely how plants and animals have evolved to survive and PHSCE has us all considering what friendship is and how they vary in different circles.

Attendance

Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

Which class will be the first to receive that treat?

This weeks winners are………

Missed Learning

50.5 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 197 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Fantastic!!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% next week?

Missed Appointments

We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
