Weekly Round Up

We’ve had an exciting week at Dormanstown this week with the arrival of our new head teacher Mrs Kell

School has also been going football crazy supporting England in the Euros! We had an amazing turnout for the match on Thursday night, and the children loved sharing the game with their friends (even though it was a draw, it wasn’t the result we wanted!)

Year 5 and B4 went on an amazing trip out to Guisborough Woods to support their artwork, and had a great time learning how art can be created from natural resources – Mr Williams and Mrs Gruenfeld were very impressed by their projects!

We also revealed our latest Diamond Standard winners for the summer term – a huge congratulations to the 5 winners who have shown courage, creativity, care, commitment and curiosity throughout the summer – it was an incredibly difficult decision with so many people excelling in the academy!

Keep an eye out for more dates and summer events coming in the next week!

Class Round Up

Let’s see what our early year classes have been up to since we last heard from them.

Nursery

This week in Nursery, we are mad about mini-beasts and have enjoyed exploring a mixture of fiction and non-fiction themed books.

In the outdoor area, the children have been taking part in their very own bug hunts and did a great job at finding the different minibeasts, including a woodlouse, a worm, a centipede, and more!

Reception

Reception have been getting ready for their trip next week to Saltburn. We wrote about what we will need, and the children even learnt how to complete a risk assessment!

We are very excited for our learning.

Class B1

This half term, B1 have progressed to stage 4 of Attention Autism where the children re-direct their attention to an activity of their own to complete.

So far the children have enjoyed creating their own little red hens, making peg farm animals and printing with cotton wool to make baa baa black sheep.

B1 have also been learning about farm animals in preparation for our trip to the farm. This week we have learned about the lifecycle of the little red hen.

Attendance

Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

Which class will be the first to receive that treat?

This weeks winners are………

Missed Learning

78 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 209 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Outstanding!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% next week?

Missed Appointments

We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
