Weekly Round Up

We can’t quite believe it is Week 3 already!

On Monday, we started the week with a whole school assembly to discuss what we mean by ‘Leadership’ – I was so impressed with the discussion. Their ideas included:

  • Supporting others to achieve
  • Showing the right example (even when no-one is watching)
  • Being resilient
  • Listening to others and good communication
  • Work well with all ages
  • Building a team

I was really impressed with Daisy in Year 2 who also told us what leadership wasn’t – ‘It isn’t the opportunity to be bossy and order everyone around.’ I agree Daisy!

We celebrated our Year 6 leaders. All of Year 6 have been given roles of responsibility this year: from Office Apprentices to Play Leaders, from Community Enterprise Leaders to Library monitors – all of them will play a key and active role in school life this year and have already made a difference this week.

We are proud to share that following writing and delivering their speeches and then a democratic vote in July – our new Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl have also been chosen. These pupils will support myself and other school leaders in helping to deliver the school’s strategic priorities this year.

A huge well done to everyone. We look forward to seeing you grow in confidence in your new roles.

You may have head that we have added to the Dormanstown family! This week we welcomed fish into our school community. Can you help us to think of names for them?

Class Dojo

Do you know the school now uses Class Dojo? This is a great service for parents/carers to see what the children get up to daily at school.

It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.

The children are also scored for meeting the Values we hold closely at Dormanstown Primary of Inspiration, Aspiration, Collaboration and Celebration

Year 1

The children in year 1 have been amazing these last few weeks. They have worked hard to adjust to the expectations and changes of year 1.

In maths we have been doing lots of number work such as finding and recognising numbers and finding one more and one less than a number. We have also been doing number bonds to 10. The children have been fantastic at this.

Year 2

The children have had a great start to Year 2, and it has been lovely to see the enthusiasm and curiosity they have for their learning.

In our reading lessons, we have been looking at the book ‘Fanatical About Frogs.’ The children have been amazed by the fascinating facts and colourful illustrations. This text links with our English work, where we are writing a non-chronological report about a ‘Bog Baby.’ The children have been learning how to present information clearly, using full stops, capital letters and spaces, as well as some interesting adjectives.

In maths, we are currently focusing on place value and counting in tens. The children are gaining a solid understanding of 2-digit numbers and their values, using practical equipment.

Class S1

S1 have been settling in amazingly well and have enjoyed exploring the areas in both the indoor and outdoor areas.

We have been reading the story ‘The Colour Monster’ and learning about the different emotions we feel, how they look on our faces and linking them to colours from the story.

Thanks to the lovely weather, we have been able to spend lots of time learning in our outdoor classroom.

Class S2

This is our first blog this academic year and we are super excited to show our learning. S2 have made a great start and are starting to settle into our new routines.

In S2, we have been reading ‘Peace at Last’ by Jill Murphy. We have been doing lots of busy activities around the story.

Attendance

Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

Which class will be the first to receive that treat?

This weeks winners are………

Missed Learning

46 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 196 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Fantastic!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% next week?

Missed Appointments

We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
