Weekly Round Up

What a week!

After six years Mrs Hill our wonderful executive headteacher retired on Friday.

Mrs Hill has served the school fabulously throughout her time and we are sure you will join us in wishing her a very happy retirement.

Children and families past and present will recognise the hard work Mrs Hill has dedicated to make Dormanstown Academy the school it is today.

Across school, children inundated her with cards, poems and songs on Friday, and despite the rain we still managed to enjoy our special fish, chips and ice-cream lunch together!

Whilst it a day tinged with sadness, we hope that Mrs Hill is now able to enjoy time with her family, her camper van and even a few lie-ins!

Have a great weekend – Come on England!

Year 5

We have had a really positive start to the final half-term of year 5.

We have been creating our own Mayan mythical creatures to feature as the main character in our very own Myths.

We have been looking at the book ‘Who let the gods out?’ as our reading text and have been taking on the roles of the character in some freezeframes (you can see them in the pictures below).

In PE, we have begun learning the different disciplines of running in the Olympics and have worked well in teams to complete some relay races.

Class B4

We have had an active start this term. From practicing for sports day in PE and developing our swimming skills. The children we also taught some survival skills in water and why we never jump in to help.

We have completed our History on the Maya’s deciding if they were a blood thirsty nation and why their civilisation declined.

We also celebrated the journey Mrs Hill has supported us in and wished her well.

Attendance

Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

Which class will be the first to receive that treat?

This weeks winners are………

Missed Learning

70.5 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 209 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Brilliant!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% next week?

Missed Appointments

We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
