Welcome to S4! I’m Mrs. Gruenfeld, the Upper KS2 Semi-Formal SEND Class Teacher at Dormanstown Primary Academy. I’m excited to work alongside Miss Atkins, the SEND Learning Assistant for our class.

Our class includes students with a wide range of learning abilities and varying SEND needs. We believe in creating an environment where every child can take the right steps to access the curriculum and feel empowered to reach their full potential. To achieve this, we focus on building strong relationships between the child, teacher, and the learning environment. We ensure the provision is tailored to meet each child’s needs, providing them with the tools to become independent learners.

We value and celebrate the differences in our class, and we’re committed to helping each child recognise and respect those differences. Our goal is to equip our students with the skills they need to thrive in the future, and we have high expectations for them to do their best. We work to reduce any barriers they may face, whether cognitive, physical, emotional, or mental. Years of experience in this unit provision have honed our ability to support each child’s unique needs.

The Curriculum

Our learning journey is both fun and challenging, providing a deep and enriching experience. Each morning, we focus on reading, writing, and maths, delivering instructions that are adaptive and differentiated to meet individual needs. The foundation topics we cover provide breadth and depth, ensuring children have a solid base to move confidently into secondary school.

Beyond the Curriculum

As a KS2 class, we aim to give students a first-hand experience of the opportunities available in the community and beyond, as part of our early careers program. We also introduce early transition experiences in Years 5 and 6, helping children envision their future and how to access it.
