Weekly Round up

We have reached the end of another half term!

Time seems to be flying by, but it has been an amazing week in academy, with so much to celebrate and share.

Year 2 had an incredible day out in Whitby this week. The sun was out, and the children had the chance to walk from the whalebones through the town and up the 199 steps to the abbey. They had a fantastic time exploring and examining the geographical features of the area, and learning more about how a coastal town operates.

Our Y5/6 football team went out to the Redcar and Eston Sports Partnership development day and did amazingly! Our two teams played brilliantly, and achieved well in their first competitive matches.

Year 6 also had the chance to visit Teesside University this week to celebrate the work they have completed, planning a sustainable Middlesbrough. They have done a great job learning about ecology and building green projects, as well as create their own builds using Minecraft Education. The judges were dazzled by the quality of all our groups work, and their ability to explain what they have created.

Ben, the creator of our new maths scheme Winning With Numbers visited the school this week and hosted a coffee morning, as well as tour the school to see how the children are progressing. He was very complementary of the attitudes of all the children, and loved how much progress they have already made.

Thank you to all our families for your support this half term, we wish you all a safe and happy week off and look forward to welcoming you all back into school after the holidays!

Class Showcase

This time it’s 5H & 6A who are showing us what they have been doing.

5H

Year 5 have been learning about the artist, Jean Michel Basquiat. In our art lessons, we spent time exploring the different techniques that Basquiat used in his artwork. We have created different pieces trying to replicate Basquiat’s style.

Then we spent some time working in the hall, and on large pieces of paper, we created self-portraits using the same techniques as Basquiat.

6A

In Year 6, we have been learning about Andy Warhol in Art.

We created our own portraits using his style. After studying how he creates his images, we took our own photo and once this was printed out, we traced round our main features onto plastic acetate.

We ensured our features had a bold, black outline. Finally, we chose three bold colours to colour our face, hair an background.  Take a look at some of our portraits, can you tell who is who?

100% Attendance this week

This weeks attendance winners are BG3! Congratulations.
