BLOG 6TH MAY 2022

Weekly Round Up

We have managed to get plenty of outdoor play this week despite the showery weather, and the children have been really focused on their curriculum work during this shorter week.

We wish the Year 6 children “Good Luck” in their SATs next week as they reach this important landmark in their school career.  They have all worked very hard and have been really committed to attending booster clubs before and after school.

We were lucky to have Leah Johnstone, Engagement Co-ordinator for Beat the Street, in the academy, delivering an assembly to celebrate the scheme and explain how the initiative is going to be continued in the summer term to support an active lifestyle (we will send further details out in the coming weeks).

Class Showcase

This week, our featured classes are, 2T and B2S, so please enjoy reading what they have been learning about.

YEAR 2

Although it has been a short week, Year 2 have been very busy. We have watched our bean sprout seeds start to grow. We are doing an investigation and have to observe them very closely.

In English we have started planning our own myth. We have been creating our own dragons and planning our story.

In Music we learned to play the Boomwhackers and experimented with pitch. We were able to play the song – ‘Twinkle Twinkle.’

B2S

We have had a busy first couple of weeks back after Easter.

The children completed a role play activity linked to The Gingerbread Man. They took on the role of a police officer to interview the Fox in order to write a report on what actually happened to the Gingerbread Man.

In maths we have been busy working on place value. The children have used lots of equipment to represent tens and ones in a number.  In science we are looking at plants. The children used their iPads to find and identify different plants in the academy grounds. We have found garden plants and wild plants.

Diary Dates and Reminders

Jewellery

Please can we remind children and parents/carers that children should not be wearing jewellery to school.  Only a small pair of stud earrings are allowed which should be removed for P.E. Children should not be wearing bracelets, rings or large earrings.

Considerate Parking

Please be considerate when parking near the academy at the beginning and end of the school day.  Although we realise that space is limited, do not block the drives of neighbouring houses or park on the double yellow lines. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Lunch Menu

Next week’s menu will be week 3.

Attendance

Congratulations to B1R and B2S who have both won our Awesome competition this week with 100% attendance.

Weekly Round Up

Great focus from the children this week as they started their summer term curriculum work. We have got a busy term planned with more educational visits and activities that the children have not been able to fully experience in for a while.

Some of our choir members had a great day on Thursday at Young Voices in Sheffield; the experience of singing in such a large arena with all the other schools was fantastic for the children and staff. Well done to them all.

After school clubs start again next week – your child will receive a letter to confirm they have got a place at any clubs requested.

Enjoy the longer bank holiday weekend and see you all on Tuesday 3rd May.

Class Showcase

This week, our featured classes are Nursery, RB and B1R, so please enjoy reading what they have been learning about.

Nursery

We have had a fantastic start to the summer term in Nursery. The children have begun name writing and we have been having fun focusing on our fine motor skills.

RB

Oh I do like to beside the Seaside!

Reception are really enjoying our new topic based on the seaside. We have lots of new areas to explore!  Our hut is now the beach and we are enjoying making sandcastles of different sizes. We have an ice cream parlour to cool us down on hot summer days. In our investigation area where we can explore and learn about a diverse range of sea creatures, this has inspired lots of independent drawing and writing.

What a fabulous start to the summer term.

B1R

This week we have been reading the story The Gruffalo. The children have enjoyed retelling the story in our Gruffalo tray, making Gruffalo crumble and colouring in their favourite characters from the story.

Young Voices

Our choir children represented the school at Young Voices in Sheffield this week, we had a lovely lunch at Bella Italia and a wonderful night of singing. Be sure to check out the gallery for all the photos!

Diary Dates and Reminders

Lunch Menu

Next week’s menu will be week 2.

Attendance

Congratulations to 1M who have won our Awesome competition this week with 97% attendance.

BLOG 8TH APRIL 2022

What a wonderful end to the term it has been, highlighted by the Year 6 visit to Peat Rigg.  The children have had many new experiences and made fantastic memories that they will remember for years to come. Thank you to Mr Mount and Miss Arkless for giving the children this opportunity.

It has been an emotional day in the academy today as we say goodbye to Mrs McFarlane as she takes early retirement after nearly 27 years at Dormanstown.  I am sure you would like to join us in thanking her for EVERYTHING she has done for all the children, families, staff members and the community during her career, and we wish her every happiness for the future.

We would like to thank all parents/carers for your support over the last term, and we hope you all have a very happy Easter holiday.  We look forward to seeing you back in the academy on Monday 25th April.

5H

This week in year 5 we have been working hard to combat climate change. In teams of 4 we created eco-gardens, specifically designed to reduce CO2 in the Atmosphere.

6A and 5/6M

The children in Y6 and Y5/6M have been learning about the true meaning of Easter, and why we celebrate this Christian festival.  In art, we have been thinking about rebirth and growth, and we looked at the season of Spring; the children then produced their own piece of artwork to celebrate a colourful spring meadow.  They used the following media: brusho and oil pastels.

Diary Dates and Reminders

If you have booked places at the Easter Club this next week, the children will come into the academy and be collected via the main entrance. We look forward to seeing the children at the sessions: morning sessions are 9.30am until 12 noon and afternoon sessions 12.30 until 3pm.

Choir members will be attending Young Voices in Sheffield on the 28th April, and we can’t wait for the children to experience singing in an arena setting.

Lunch Menu

We will start back on Week 1 after the Easter Holidays.

Attendance

Congratulations to B2S who have won our Awesome competition this week with 98% attendance.

Times Table Rockstars

Practicing times tables is so important in improving maths and is a huge part of number work from Year 2 upwards. Please encourage your child to use their account to get as fast as they can which will help them be able to apply their knowledge to different areas of maths.

BLOG 1st April 2022

On Monday, KS2 had an assembly from Rita Richardson (Schools Education Co-ordinator from Cleveland Fire Service) to speak about the dangers of fire setting in the community and encouraging everyone to stay safe. 3S had a very enjoyable visit to the Tees Barrage and were lucky enough to be the first to visit on a school trip over the last two years. We were very proud of the academy choirs this week who participated in the Trust Easter Service at St Nicholas’ Church, Guisborough: The Trust would like to say thank you to all children who performed and all parents/carers who attended. Nursery have enjoyed seeing their eggs hatch and the chicks grow and develop so much over the last week; they have certainly been a hot topic of conversation amongst our EYFS children!

This week, our featured classes are 3S, 4HM and B3G, so please enjoy reading what they have been up to.

Celebrating Class Achievements

3S

This week Year 3 headed out to Tees Barrage on a trip to support their history topic. We had an amazing time, and worked with The Canals and Rivers Trust to learn more about the history of the river, why it is so important to our area and also how the water has been changed over time.

We created our own sand rivers, thinking carefully about where we would place towns, industry and bridges. During lunchtime we headed down to the water to do some nature spotting. Half of the class were lucky enough to see a grey seal swimming in the water.

In the afternoon we were invited up into the control tower, where we given the chance to open the river gates, raise bridges and operate the monitoring cameras.

The trip was a huge success, and all the Year 3 staff were incredibly proud of all the children for their attitudes and behaviour.

4HM

Over the last couple of weeks, in DT Year 4 have been completing work all about recyclable materials. We planned, designed and created our own, ‘plastic flower wall’ for the balcony we thought hard about how we could use single use plastics that would usually go to landfill to achieve this.

B3G

This term B3G have been focusing on space. A workshop was carried out via zoom where the children learnt about the Webb Space telescope and then create a card which reflected the awe and beauty of the planets, stars and galaxies that can be seen in space.

Marvellous Me

Let us know if you need your “join up” code to hear about the great things your children are getting up to in school.

BLOG 25TH MARCH 2022

The children in Years 1 to 6 have undertaken assessments this week, and we are really pleased how hard they have worked and the focus they have had.  Parents and carers should be really proud of their achievements and progress over the term.

KS2 had an assembly this week to discuss the Power of Women initiative that Mrs Sherwood has been leading with our two wonderful ambassadors in Year 6.

Mr Mount has received some fantastic books from the Puffin World of Stories that we will be sharing with the children soon and putting in the library.

We also look forward to hearing about the Y5 trip to Danby Moors Centre that they have enjoyed today.

This week, our featured classes are 1M, 2T and B2S, so please enjoy reading what they have been up to.

Celebrating Class Achievements

1M

Year 1 children have been learning how to be an illustrator in the style of Axel Scheffler who illustrates Julia Donaldson books. We practiced drawing, outlining and colouring in flowers. We then listened to a description of The Smeds and The Smoos and designed a front cover for this Julia Donaldson book

2T

In Year 2 we have been incredibly busy with assessment week, but we found time to learn about fractions. Mrs Berry took us outside and we played with the foam fractions. We learned halves and quarters of shapes and numbers. Also, we finally got to finish our History topic off. We now know about the history of Redcar.

B2S

Over the last couple of weeks, B2S have been studying Mackenzie Thorpe a local artist. The children have taken inspiration from his art work on the Transporter Bridge and Steel Works to created their own piece. We have looked at the colours he uses and how they depict a particular mood. Using all of the techniques they have critiqued; they were able to complete a final piece which is now displayed in class.

B2S have also been developing their yoga skills on an afternoon following Jamie from Cosmic Yoga. They really enjoy listening to the stories and working on their stretches and poses.

Parent/Carer Questionnaire

There are a few classes with outstanding questionnaires – if you would still like to submit your views, please send in with your child early next week.

Dates for the Diary

Lunch Menu

Next week’s menu will be week 2.

What a great day we have had in the academy with it being Red Nose Day – fantastic outfits, a wonderful talent show and class relay runs.  It was lovely to see such happy, smiling faces raising money for this wonderful charity.

Our assembly theme this week was self-belief and we linked it to our achievements in the academy and to our Comic Relief talent show that the whole school watched this morning. Our Character Education theme was Service which KS1 was able to link to the support for the people in Ukraine.

This week, our featured classes are Nursery, RB and B1R, so please enjoy reading what they have been up to.

Celebrating Class Achievements

Nursery

Welcome to No. 2 Lilly Lane

The saying “home is where the heart is” is certainly true in Nursery’s Lilly Lane. We have worked hard to create a new home area that mirrors the children’s own experiences of life at home. The children have been involved in decorating it with wallpaper, accessorising it with picture frames of themselves and have helped organise our kitchen to create an engaging experience for all. The importance of building on children’s interests and experiences, using language to support vocabulary and thinking skills is a crucial part of the learning process and our new domestic role play area is the heart of where all this happens. No.2 Lilly Lane, is the most familiar experience the children can have. It relates directly to their own lives and their interests and is something that all children have in common regardless of their cultural background or previous experience. The learning we have already experienced since creating this has been extraordinary and high quality communication is taking place daily. We look forward to seeing you all at No.2 Lilly Lane soon!

Reception

Outdoor Learning!

Reception are extremely proud that the quality of their outdoor learning matches that of their indoor learning! This week the children constructed a castle outside. They worked collaboratively and decided that their castle needed a moat, a drawbridge and battlements to help protect it from invaders. To celebrate the children constructed a table in the great hall and role-played having an amazing banquet!

Understanding of the World!

Our story this week is ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.  The story stimulated children’s curiosity and they became excited about growing and planting. We talked about what conditions plants need to grow.  Each child planted a seed and wrote an instruction book to help others to plant a seed and grow a flowers.

                                                              Amazing learning Reception!

B1R

This week we have been learning all about pets and how we look after them. The children have investigated which pets we can keep at home, we looked at keeping them clean, feeding our pets and what happens if they get poorly. The children had great fun dressing up as a vet and learning how make our pets feel better.

Parent Consultations and Questionnaire

Many thanks to everyone who attended parent consultations this week; it was lovely to have parents and carers in the academy and to speak to you face to face regarding your child’s progress.  Thank you to everyone who completed the questionnaire to share your views on the academy.  If you still have to complete it, please could your return it to the academy by Wednesday 23rd March. Anyone who was unable to attend will get a copy sent home with their child to complete and return please. Many thanks for your support.

British Science Week

This week is British Science Week, and, in the academy, we have all enjoyed learning about Forces using ‘Flight’ as a stimulus. The children from Nursery up to Y6 have looked at the theme of ‘Flight’, working on scientific enquiry and fair testing.

We kick started the week with a visit from Andy, a scientist from Science Boffins. He delivered an explosive assembly to the whole school before each class got to enjoy a workshop with him based on the universe.

They have investigated a range of different air powered rockets, stunt planes that fly in circles and flying paper straws. The children worked together to investigate which flew the furthest and how they could adapt them to make them fly further. The older children investigated how the protectory of planes affects the distance of flight.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is image-6.png

Comic Relief – Red Nose Day

The children have had lots of fun today and we raised £183.52, thank you for all your donations! Look out for our photo gallery next week.

Beat the Street

Don’t forget to keep gaining points on your card by visiting the beat boxes and getting lots of valuable exercise.

Dates for the Diary

Plaza

It has been brought to our attention, that some inappropriate language and conversations are being had on the Plaza by a very small minority of adults when parents/carers are waiting with their children on a morning. Sadly, these are often in front of many children.  May we ask that parents/carers consider what is being said and act in a responsible way on the academy grounds please.

Lunch Menu

Next week’s menu will be week 1.

Attendance

Congratulations to 3S who have won our Awesome competition this week.

Please remember to phone the academy if your child is going to be absent and remember the importance of excellent attendance at school.

Times Table Rockstars

Practicing times tables is so important in improving maths and is a huge part of number work from Year 2 upwards. Please encourage your child to use their account to get as fast as they can which will help them be able to apply their knowledge to different areas of maths.

BLOG  11th March 2022

Our assembly theme this week was ambition and aspiration linked to National Careers Week and International Women’s Day. Our Character Education continued with the theme of cleanliness.

This week, our featured classes are 5H, 5/6M and 6A, so please enjoy reading what they have been up to.

A Big Thank You

We were sad to see Mrs Stangoe step down from being a lunchtime supervisor this week.  Mrs Stangoe has been a wonderful support to all the children over lunchtimes for over 10 years now, and we will miss having her around during the middle of the day. We would like to thank Mrs Stangoe for all she has done in the role, and we are pleased to still see her smiling face around the academy in the mornings and after school, undertaking her caretaking duties.

Celebrating Class Achievements

5H

This week we have been creating computer games in year 5. These have been based around a book the children have been enjoying across the curriculum called Room 13 (set in Whitby). They had to create a maze game in which the main character is trying to escape from a vampire bat. Have a look at these amazing photos.

5/6M

5/6M have been learning about the Americas and locating the different countries that make up the continents.

6A

To support our history work on the Civil Rights Movement in America, Y6 held a peaceful protest march on equality for all.  This was inspired by the infamous “I have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Junior.  The children created their own banners and slogans – some even gave a speech in the style of the man himself!  Y6 certainly has talent.

Today, Y6 have been learning how to sew, with the amazing support from the sewing bees of Y5/6M.  We are working towards making a bag – hopefully, but we just have to learn how to thread a needle first.  Look out for the brilliant pictures coming soon.

Beat the Street

Don’t forget to keep gaining points on your card by visiting the beat boxes and getting lots of valuable exercise.  5H are going on a walk around Redcar next week with Leah Johnstone, who is an Engagement Co-ordinator, to promote the scheme and hopefully gain lots more points for our academy.

Mellors Competition

Mellors provided a special menu on Thursday to promote International School Meals Day and this year’s theme was past present and future.  Don’t forget to get any entries in for the linked competition that we promoted on FaceBook.

British Science Week

We have some great activities planned for next week to promote British Science Week, including a visit on Tuesday from Science Boffins to undertake an assembly and workshops across the school.

Dates for the Diary

Red Nose Day

Next Friday sees the return of Comic Relief.

The children can dress up in red nose day t-shirts/noses or be superheroes

We are having a talent competition on Friday.  The children will be the live audience and we also have some amazing judges.

Poppy Appeal 2021

This week a representative from The Royal Legion came into school to let us know that at the Poppy Appeal in 2021, Dormanstown Primary Academy raised £256.53 . Thank you to everyone who donated!

Lunch Menu

Next week’s menu will be week 3.

BLOG – 4TH March 2022

Monday’s assembly was based on the theme of self-control, and we also spoke about the new lunchtime activities and the launch of Beat the Street in Redcar and Cleveland .                     Our Character Education theme focused on cleanliness.

This week, our featured classes are 3S, 4HM and B3G, so enjoy reading what they have been up to.

World Book Day

What amazing costumes we had from children across the academy for World Book Day. It was a wonderful day of activities celebrating a broad range of children’s literature and favourite characters. Please see our gallery for all the photo’s.

New Lunchtime Activities

Thank you to our lunchtime supervisors for taking part in their training session so enthusiastically this week (the sweatbands were optional!). We had lots of very happy and active children at lunchtime!! It was wonderful to see boys and girls from Reception to Y6 mixing and playing so harmoniously.

Members of our Y6 JLT are also leading dance sessions for two lunchtimes a week in the sports.  They have selected their own music and provide moves for the other children to copy for each song.

Beat The Street

Beat the Street started this week and everyone is invited to play! The game sees how far you can walk, roll or cycle around our local area, for six weeks. Earn points and win prizes! To play, use your paper or online map to find the Beat Boxes. Start your journey – hover your card over the Beat Box until it beeps and flashes. Visit two Beat Boxes in one hour and collect ten points for each Beat Box. Carry on your journey – score ten points for each extra Beat Box you visit. Our children will soon bring home a game card for themselves, a card for a parent or carer and a map. If any additional cards are required, please see the Beat the Street website www.beatthestreet.me/redcarcleveland. Beat the Street Redcar and Cleveland runs from 2nd March – 13th April.

We are already on the leader board with lots of children registered to take part and points gained by walking, cycling, rolling or running between different Beat Boxes. Keep up the great work, and you still have another 5 weeks to take part in this.

STEM Club

This week we relaunched STEM Club. We now have a group of Y5 children working towards their Bronze Award and a Y6 group working on their Silver Award after completing the Bronze Award last summer. The Y6 children were fantastic ambassadors of the award and supported the Y5 children in login into the National School’s Observatory and navigating their first session using the online Liverpool Telescope.

A little about STEM Club…

The National Schools’ Observatory (NSO) is about inspiring the next generation of scientists, programmers, engineers and mathematicians. They provide free access to the world’s largest fully robotic telescope, and use the wonders of space to excite and amaze pupils of all ages and develop their love of STEM education.

School Day and PE Kits

Thank you so much for all the parents/carers who have been supportive of providing children with the appropriate PE kit and getting their children to school on time each day.  We have certainly seen a super improvement with both of these: children are in the academy ready for learning and look super smart in their P.E. lessons.

Support with News Events

The current events surrounding Ukraine conflict may spark discussions, or trigger upset around what is happening.  Unfiltered content search terms, such as bombing and invasion on social media such as tiktok, video footage being shared and a range of other posts quite rightly may cause an emotional response in our children and young people.

Childnet have released a resource to help parents engage in these discussions and we would like to share the link with you:

Supporting your child if they see upsetting content online about what is happening in Ukraine | Childnet

We have also added their “conversation starter” cheat sheet which will help parents with a simple and effective starting point to get a discussion started on this topic:

Have a conversaAcceptable-Family-agreement-template1.pdfion | Childnet

Celebrating Class Achievements – OUR NEW FEATURE

3S

In Y3 this week we worked with the dinner supervisors and Mr Long to help design new games and activities to play at lunchtime. We learnt how to use the parachute, as well as playing hockey, dodgeball and football. In class we have started our new writing unit, based on the amazing Hortense and the Shadow by Natalia and Lauren O’Hara. We have studied vocabulary, ready to start producing descriptive writing next week.

4HM

This week in Year 4, we have been continuing our work on states of matter. We have carried out practical experiments to allow us to identify the state of a substance using our knowledge on the properties of: solids, liquids and gases.

B3G

B3G have enjoyed World Day with activities relating to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl and Rocket Rules by Nathan Bryan. We created some great descriptive sentences of some of the characters from the famous book: like Caring Charlie or how bitter and selfish Verruca Salt can be. Nathan Bryan and Dapo Odeolo set us a task to create some of our own rules that we could follow to create inspiration in your lives/ day.

B3G thought of

  1. To listen to Jazz music.
  2. Go on adventures
  3. Dance when can.
  4. Read books we wouldn’t usually read / pick up.

Action for Happiness

This month’s theme is Mindful March.

Lunch Menu

Next week, lunch menu is week 2.

BLOG – 18th February 2022

Monday’s assembly was based on Random Acts of Kindness Week, and we asked children and staff to really demonstrate how they could show kindness to others. We wanted this to be replicated every day and not just for this week. Our Character Education theme continued with respect.

This week, our featured classes are 1M, 2T and B2S, so enjoy reading what they have been up to.

Thank you for your support this half term and let’s hope, that as we move into spring, we can look towards more settled times again.  We hope everyone has a lovely, restful holiday, and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the academy on Monday 28th February.

New Main Entrance

As of Monday, 28th February we will have a new Main Entrance into school. This is located at the old Community Entrance and should be used for parents requiring the school office.

Power of Women

Our two Ambassadors, alongside Mrs Sherwood, represented the academy at Teesside University to launch this important project.  They undertook lots of activities with children from the other academies as well as speaking in front of a large audience about why they chose to be an ambassador and what they hoped to achieve for themselves and others in the academy.  We were so proud of the contributions they made.

World Book Day

On the first Thursday back after the holidays, it will be World Book Day, celebrating its 25th Anniversary. The children can come dressed in their favourite book character and bring the book to school with them.

Mellors are also putting on a special World Book Day lunch menu to further celebrate characters from children’s literature:

School Day and PE KITS

We thank all parents/carers who are getting their children to school at the correct time. If you have had to complete a late slip, please set off a few minutes earlier or work with your child to get them there on time. If you require any support, please contact Mrs Sherwood or a member of the pastoral team. Please remember that the start time for all children after the holidays is 8.40am. Children should enter school through their normal doors, Price Road gates will be locked at 8:45am and Plaza doors will close at 8:50am. After this time, children need to enter through the new Main Entrance (old Community Entrance).

Celebrating Class Achievements – OUR NEW FEATURE

1M

This week our children learnt how to programme a beebot, instructing it to move forwards and backwards. We also enjoyed reading in the library. This was a class treat for getting the highest percentage of home reading AGAIN!

2T

Year 2 have had a very busy week. In English, we have been writing our own poems liked to ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ week.  As a class, we created a kindness acrostic poem. In maths, we have been measuring. We have used the balance scales and metre sticks to weigh/ measure classroom objects. Lastly, in Art, we have been colour mixing. It has been a very busy week!

B2S

What a busy week we have had in B2S!

On Monday we went on a bus to Pennyman Primary Academy for our Easter Service Choir Rehearsal. We enjoyed singing lots of Easter songs with Mr Nixon and other children from our Trust Academies. It was great to come together and learn some actions to our new songs.

In maths this week, we have looked at measuring using non-standard units of measure. The children were very busy measuring around the classroom using pens, scissors, cubes and counters.

As part of Mental Health Awareness week, the children enjoyed finding out about healthy eating. They made a wonderful fruit salad which they throughly enjoyed eating!

Today we have had a fantastic afternoon in class enjoying our Pizza Party for achieving 100% attendance for 7 weeks which spelt out AWESOME. Well done, B2S.

Lunch Menu

Please see below for your new menus, starting Monday 28th February. We will start on week 1!

Attendance

Congratulations to B1R who have won our Awesome competition this week.

Please remember to phone the academy if your child is going to be absent and remember the importance of excellent attendance at school.

Blog – 11th February 2022

Monday’s assembly was based on Children’s Mental Health Week, and our Character Education theme was respect.  We also promoted Safer Internet Day as well as welcoming the author, Helen Rutter, into the academy.

We are looking forward to some of the children from our base classes attending a choir rehearsal at Pennyman Primary on Monday, to sing with other children from within the Trust.

Each week we will be celebrating the work of 3 classes in school on a rotation, so all classes will be covered over a month. This week we are featuring Nursery, RB and B1R.

Safer Internet Day

On Tuesday, we promoted Safer Internet Day with the theme of ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’. Each class undertook activities to support the children in being aware of how they should respond to situations online when accessing games and other activities.

National Obesity Week Competition

To mark National Obesity Week 2022, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s Health Improvement Team, in Partnership with Everyone Active, are launching a competition open to all children of primary school age throughout Redcar and Cleveland. Please read the letter below to find out more details.  Please get entries in by the 17th February.

School Shoes

If your child is wearing the incorrect shoes they will be changed into plain black plimsolls.

Dates for Your Diary

Celebrating Class Achievements

Please enjoy seeing what classes have been up to:

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have continued our topic of Winter. We have explored animals of the Artic and Antarctic and completed some fun ice melting experiments in science! We’ve also been practicing dressing ourselves for the cold weather.

RB

Children in reception have been learning about cleanliness.   We did an experiment where we used pepper to represent germs.

The children put their finger in the pepper and the pepper stuck to their finger like germs.

They put soap on their finger and were amazed to see that the pepper did not stick.

We also opened our toy museum and explored old and new toys.  We learned what kinds of  materials they are made from, how they are made and how they move.

B1R

This week in B1R, we have been working on our fine motor skills. We have used our fine motor skills to thread cereal onto pipe cleaners to make some yummy bird feeders, and we have made patterns using the pegs and peg boards. We have also been reading the story Little Red Riding Hood. The children have been using the puppets from our story tray to help them to retell the story.

Children’s Mental Health Week

We celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week by starting the week with an assembly to promote the theme of “Growing Together”. In class, we undertook activities such as mindfulness, yoga and other activities that made us look after ourselves.

Lunch menu

The menu for week beginning 14th February is Week 3. Please see below

Attendance

Congratulations to B2S who have won our Awesome competition this week with 100% attendance.
