As we head towards the end of another half term, it has been fantastic to see the quality of learning and behaviour in all areas of the school.
It has been an exciting week for our Y3/4 Football team who headed out to their first competition, organised by the Redcar and Eston Sports Partnership. They had a great afternoon, and impressed the organisers with their positive attitudes and teamwork, eventually finishing a respectable fourth in the league.
Winning With Numbers is now officially live, and children have been working hard in school and at home to improve their mental maths skills. Across the whole school children have been securing the number skills they need to be successful, and the sense of competition is growing!
We have seen some amazing writing in classes this week, with recounts, biographies and stories being finalised. It is clear children are trying incredibly hard in their lessons to improve their vocabulary, handwriting and spelling, and producing some amazing work!
With five days until the holidays, we look forward to rounding off the half term in style next week!
This week is the turn of 3L, 4H and B3G to highlight their work.
3L have been working very hard in art this term. They have been learning all about Giuseppe Arcimboldo and have completed observational drawings of fruit and vegetables using watercolour, pastels, pencils and wax crayons. We have also been focusing on mental health this week and what they can do to keep their mind healthy but also what they can do help other people.
Over the past two weeks, during our art lessons 4H have been enjoying the work of impressionist artist David Hockney.
We have used a range of media to imitate his use of mark making, as well as his use of vibrant and contrasting colour. We have even been looking at his use of perspective in his paintings and noticed his use of a one point perspective so we explored the use lines in our work to create this.
So far, we have started to ‘Hockney-fy’ our own local landscape, which we hope to turn into a digital final piece using our IPads.
B3G have had a fantastic half term.
We have journeyed back in time to understand the importance of The Zetland life boat and by being News Reporters we have shown all that we have learnt.
We have then moved into Art and looked at David Hockney’s work. The children identified that by drawing lines, dashes or swirls created a textured look and that Hockney used bold and contrasting colours.
We combined all the elements and created our own master pieces.
Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.
Which class will be the first to receive that treat?
This weeks winners are……..
24 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.
Next week menu choice will be week 1
