Weekly Round up

We focused on Anti-Bullying Week in assemblies this week whose theme was “Reach Out”, and we started this on Monday with Odd Socks Day to promote individuality. Friday was also Children in Need Day where the children dressed up in Pudsey themed clothing by going spotty, dressing in yellow or even coming as your favourite superhero.  Many thanks for all the generous donations.

As it was also Road Safety Week, we were pleased to welcome the fire service into school to undertake assemblies with both key stages to remind children how to stay safe near roads.

We welcomed parents and carers into the academy for parental engagement events in RB and 1T.  6A have had a successful week swimming each afternoon; it is 4H’s turn next week.

Class Showcase

This week, our featured classes are 1T, 2C and B2S, so please enjoy reading what they have been learning about.

1T

1T have been learning how to chop, peel and grate different vegetables in preparation for making our healthy vegetable soup today. We have talked about why fruit and vegetables are healthy and how we should eat them as part of a balanced diet.

We are really looking forward to our parents/ careers coming in to help up prepare the vegetables. 

2C

In Science, 2C have been learning about habitats and microhabitats. Microhabitats are very small habitats, such as the space between rocks or clumps of grass.

We had a great time exploring different microhabitats in the school grounds and found lots of minibeasts that live there, including, worms, woodlice and snails. 

In Music, we have been creating a piece of music to represent a rocket launch. We watched and listened to a rocket taking off, thinking carefully about the sounds it was making. We then wrote our own graphic score to represent the different noises. 

B2S

We have been very busy over the last few weeks.

In History we are looking at ‘What was different when my parents and grandparents were little?’ We have been looking at toys that our parents played with when they were our age. Mrs Thomas brought in a soft toy that was 60 years old.

We had a parent afternoon and one of the parents brought in a car that was 30 years old. We had lots of fun and looking at the old toys. Some of us made a ‘Jack in the Box’ with our mams. This was a popular toy in the olden days. Joseph brought in a toy that he has had since he was a baby; it was a baby dinosaur.

As well as History, we have been doing PE. We made some shapes with our bodies. Can you guess the shapes?

Power of Women

Fancy a coffee?
Have you heard about Power of Women? We are a local organisation with big plans and have
been working with pupils at Dormanstown Primary Academy. We’ve received fantastic feedback
– we seem to be doing something right – but would like you to know more and be involved, if
you’d like to be.
We want to support all children to be more confident, know their strengths and have greater
information about future careers, as well as learn about equality and that everyone should have
the same access to opportunities, whatever their gender.
We would love to meet you and tell you more, as well as learn from you how YOU think we could
help to develop confidence and equality in our children. We are holding a coffee morning on
Tuesday 22nd November at 8:45am – 10:00am and really hope you can join us for coffee, tea,
cake and chat. If you’d just like a cuppa, that’s fine too!

Children in Need

We have raised a total of £178.58 for Children in Need, we want to thank everyone who contributed today and we are so happy with the amount raised.

Awesome Attendance

Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

Missed Learning

9 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

Attendance Reporting on School Gateway

As you will be aware we are using a new app service called School Gateway to communicate with parents. You can now report your child’s absence through the app. If we have not heard from you, we will be sending out attendance messages which you can reply to, which will come directly to the team.

You can also get your children’s uniform here.

Lollipops have a preloved rail out on the shop floor with various items on including polo tops, trousers, sweatshirts/cardigans, shoes, plimsolls, summer dresses etc. All items on the rail are free for anyone to take, they just ask for customers to be considerate of others when taking items. There is a box for anyone who would like to make donations which we then add to the rail.
