What a busy week we have had!
Year 5 celebrated the end of their collaboration with Teesside University this week, as families gathered to listen to their poetry, share animations and listen to speakers together. Bob at the University has done a great job in several sessions, and was delighted by how well the children expressed themselves.
Our Power of Women group have been out and about again, representing the school at an event with many local leaders and industries.
Year 6 completed their final practice before their end of school SATs which begin in two weeks. They have been working incredibly hard, and their results show they are ready and prepared for the tests – we are sure they will be amazing!
Year 4 were also finishing off projects this week, as Jacqui from Bright Minds visited school as part of their enterprise and careers workshops with Anglo-American. The children were able to present their ideas to a high standard, and impressed everyone with their creativity!
Finally, Year 3 spent a windy morning playing a range of games including cricket and rounders. The staff certainly felt the chill, but were delighted with the teamwork and effort from all the class!
Enjoy your weekends!
Let’s see what Year 3, Year 4 and Class B3 have to show us this week.
This week, Year 3 went on an exciting trip to the MFC Foundation. They had an amazing morning learning all some sports skills from some children from St Peter’s College.
We were lucky enough to take part in 7 different activities, all teaching us about cricket, rounders or softball.
The children are so excited for our next P.E lesson to put all their new knowledge to good use!
This week in Science Year 4 have started a new topic, ‘What happens when you eat food?’
We have started by looking at the role of teeth in the digestive process – we have explored this through a investigating the amount of sugar in drinks and learning how sugar leads to an increase in plaque and how this destroys tooth enamel.
In order to investigate this, we planned and carried out a fair test using egg shells that act similar to enamel on our teeth.
B3 have had an exciting couple of weeks getting to know their new teacher Mrs Jones. The children have quickly settled into new routines and have really impressed Mrs Jones with their positivity and independence.
B3 have shown their musical talents by playing Caribbean Party on the xylophones.
During Maths, B3 have been learning about place value. The children have identified numbers, created them using dienes and have found 1 more and 1 less. We have learnt new vocabulary such as greater, less than and equal which has been useful when comparing numbers and quantities.
In Science, B3 have been learning about plants. This week we focused on seed dispersal. The children have enjoyed creating sycamore seeds to observe how they travel in the air.
The children have loved taking part in PE as we have been learning which skills we need to play rounders. So far, we have been accurately throwing over arm and under arm. B3 have shown brilliant concentration skills as they have thrown the balls into different targets.
Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.
Which class will be the first to receive that treat?
This weeks winners are………
46.5 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.
This week we had 218 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Fantastic!
A huge WELL DONE to you all.
Can you get 100% next week?
We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
Next week’s choices will be Week 1.
A reminder to all parents we are a Nut Free Academy, please read below.
Approaching the end of Active April, what actions will you be taking?
You can get your children’s uniform here.

There would appear to be a problem with head lice in the academy. Several parents have informed us that their child has headlice; obviously this must mean that there are other children who also have the problem.
I have taken this opportunity to provide some up-to-date advice for treating headlice and I would ask every parent to please check their child’s hair tonight and every night and treat if necessary.
It is not sufficient to simply shampoo your child’s hair; this will not get rid of the lice – parents should visit a chemist, supermarket or see their family doctor to purchase or obtain a prescription for headlice lotion and follow the instructions. An alternative method, and one which does not involve the use of chemicals, is as follows:
It is recommended that the above treatment be done for at least 4 days.
If you know your child has headlice, please treat it as soon as possible and check your child’s hair every night.
The school nurse can be contacted via school, if any further advice or information is needed
Another great week in the academy with the children having such positive...
