We are back!
We hope everyone had a fantastic break, and enjoyed a relaxing time as a family. We can’t believe we are already into the summer term, our last before your children move up into the next year of their educational journey!
It has been lovely for all staff to hear from the children what they have been up to over the last fortnight, and to see how excitedly they have returned to their learning. We have a packed calendar for the term ahead, and we can’t wait to start with the activities we have planned.
This week our choir has once again been representing us outstandingly, this time at the trust Easter service at Guisborough Church. We were delighted to hear how beautifully they sang, and the kind words from many people at the event as to how well they conducted themselves.
Classes have been getting stuck into history this week, so be sure to ask them what they have been learning about, as they have been incredibly keen to share their learning so far!
Keep an eye on the calendar, as many more events, clubs and activities will be launched in the upcoming weeks!
For our first week back, let’s see what our Early Year classes have been up to.
This half term in Nursery we are delving into the deep dark wood and exploring all about woodland habitats and the creatures who live there. We have begun by exploring stories and over the next few weeks we shave lots of exciting activities planned including a feast with a Gruffalo.
Reception have completed their study of artist George Seurat and created their own painting of a tree using pointillism. They decided if they were painting a tree in spring or Autumn.
We are impressed with their skills, and they persevered to create their painting using dots.
This week, B1 have been learning about the Islamic festival Eid. The children have enjoyed learning about the traditional ways that Muslim families celebrate this special time. We have danced to traditional music, created sparkly firework pictures, made colourful lanterns for decorations and used our construction materials to build a mosque.
In maths, the children have been exploring capacity using a range of different resources including water, rice and pasta. We have practiced using the language ’empty’ and ‘full’ to describe the containers and have begun to compare them.
Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.
Which class will be the first to receive that treat?
This weeks winners are………
Also huge congratulations to Class B1 for being AWESOME!
28 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.
This week we had 232 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Fantastic!
A huge WELL DONE to you all.
Can you get 100% next week?
We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
Important information for all our families.
There would appear to be a problem with head lice in the academy. Several parents have informed us that their child has headlice; obviously this must mean that there are other children who also have the problem.
I have taken this opportunity to provide some up-to-date advice for treating headlice and I would ask every parent to please check their child’s hair tonight and every night and treat if necessary.
It is not sufficient to simply shampoo your child’s hair; this will not get rid of the lice – parents should visit a chemist, supermarket or see their family doctor to purchase or obtain a prescription for headlice lotion and follow the instructions. An alternative method, and one which does not involve the use of chemicals, is as follows:
It is recommended that the above treatment be done for at least 4 days.
If you know your child has headlice, please treat it as soon as possible and check your child’s hair every night.
The school nurse can be contacted via school, if any further advice or information is needed
Coming Soon!
Next week’s choices will be Week 2.
A reminder to all parents we are a Nut Free Academy, please read below.
