Weekly Round Up

It’s the holidays!

We are delighted to say that every child and adult in the academy has thoroughly earnt their week off!

We have had a great week, with the TVED Book Awards finishing the half term off in style – a huge congratulations to our academy winners, and to all the children who attended the trip – they were reading superstars! We also had one of the authors, Helen Peters join us in the academy, and some year groups were lucky enough to come along to a library session and get the chance to talk to her and find out more about her books! We are already excited for TVED Book 2025!

Y2 had a great day at Danby Moorside on Thursday, applying lots of their geography and science learning in the great outdoors. Miss Clark and Miss Leighton came back tired, but very happy with how well the children tackled the day, and the way they could explain their knowledge throughout the excursion.

We wish you all a safe, happy and relaxing week off, and look forward to returning for the last 7 weeks of the year!

Class Round Up

Let’s see what Year 1, Year 2 and Class B2 have been up to recently.

Year 1

In Year 1 the children have been working extremely hard.

We have been learning about money. First, we looked at different coins and notes and talked about what was the same and what was different to help us recognise them better.

We discussed the values of each coin and note and thought about how many pennies are in £1, £2, 50p etc. We practiced counting a number of coins to work out the total. To do this we used our 2, 5 and 10 timetables knowledge to help us work it out.

We opened a shop setting random items from around the classroom. The children had to match the coins to the objects from our shop. The children liked finding the exact coin to match to the price on the object.

Next, they liked thinking of other coins they could use to make the amount needed for the object.

Year 2

Year 2 had a fantastic school trip to Danby Moors on Thursday! During our woodland and countryside adventure, the children had the opportunity to explore the moors and immerse themselves in nature.

They were so excited to see a variety of wildlife, including birds, squirrels and lots of sheep!

Despite the mud, the children had a great time playing games in the woods. We also looked at the parts of a tree and investigated different seeds and the plants and trees that they grow into.

Well done Year 2, a super day out!

Class B2

This week, B2, have been learning about Captain James Cook. We know why he was important and acted out Cook’s death. The children have really enjoyed this topic and loved the fact that he was a local explorer.

In English, we have been writing reports about Elephants. We read a text about elephants and written our own facts. Here is some of our amazing writing

In music we have been learning to play the xylophone. After the children had mastered this skill, they moved onto learning to play a range of percussion instruments to Elne Kleine, Nachtmuslk- percussion. Mrs Norris was really impressed with the children’s skills.

Attendance

Each week we have an ‘Awesome Attendance’ competition for the class or classes with the highest attendance. The class with the highest attendance will receive a letter and the first class to spell out ‘Awesome’ receives a treat for the whole class.

Which class will be the first to receive that treat?

This weeks winners are………

Missed Learning

42.5 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained absence. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 223 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Amazing!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% next week?

Missed Appointments

We strive to accommodate parents/carers with appointment times within the academy. Unfortunately we have noticed that many appointments have been missed, occasionally this may be due to unforeseen circumstances. If you have to cancel and/or re-arrange your appointment, please ensure you contact the academy as soon as possible. Failing to turn up for an appointment and not contacting the academy to cancel it has an adverse effect on other parents/carers appointment times. This can also take valuable staff time that could have been utilised by other parents.
