We’ve had classes experiencing a range of trips this week with Reception visiting Newham Grange Farm and Nursery and B1R enjoying a day at Hardwick Park.
We also had our Y6 children going to A.V. Dawson’s new headquarters in Middlesbrough for a World of Work at your Feet event where they found out about the range of jobs available within a company, supporting them to be aspirational in the future.
6A and 6M have also been swimming four afternoons this week with Year 5 starting their block of swimming today. It is such an important part of the curriculum for the children to be able to swim 25m.
It was also lovely to have our first parental engagement afternoon when B3G welcomed their parents to support with their curriculum work.
We’ve got a busy few weeks coming up, so please keep a look out for different events on the diary dates below.
This week, our featured classes are 2T, 3A, 4HM and B3G, so please enjoy reading what they have been learning about.
This week in Year 2, we have been learning about money in maths. We have been recognising the value of coins, adding money and making different amounts with the coins that we know.
Our Reading Skills sessions are somewhat different this half term. We have been listening to Jack and the Beanstalk. Using this story we have been some hot seating, discussing what we think of Jack and the Giant and sequencing the story.
In Year 3 we have spent the last week planning our food technology unit – burger design!
We have learnt about health and nutrition, how to craft the perfect patty and also considered how to maintain high levels of food hygiene. We had an amazing day creating and eating our food – they were delicious! We tried beef, turkey and chickpea burgers to help us understand how to design a balanced menu.
Over the last couple of weeks, Year 4 have been exploring the physical and human features of where they live. We started by identifying where the North East is located on a map of England, we then used this knowledge to create an annotated plastercine model that included: the counties of the North East as well as large settlements.
This half term B3G have enjoyed DT where our focus has been making pastries. We have explored various pastries from shortcrust, filo, choux and puff. We were able to identify that most pastries have the basic ingredients but it’s the process of creating it that varies.
As a class we made 2 different pastries ‘Puff pastry’ and ‘Shortcrust pastry’ with a helping hand from parents. Here are some pictures to show what fun baking can be.
