Welcome back to everyone after the summer break. We hope you had a restful time and enjoyed the holidays.
The children have had a really settled start to the term and fully engaged in their new learning. They have adapted to our routines in the academy without having bubbles anymore, enjoying playing together and having lunch in the dining hall together.
Our P.E days are as follows:
Tuesday – B2S, B3G and B1R
Wednesday – 3S, 5H and RB
Thursday – 1M and 2T
Friday – 4HM and Year 6.
Please ensure that the children have full P.E. kits in the academy on these days.
We are so happy to have all our children back in school after the disruption of the last 18 months. We have always been proud of our attendance and expect to see children in school every day. Any issues with attendance, please speak to Miss Duffy who will be happy to give help and advice to avoid any attendance procedures. We will continue to give weekly Awesome Awards to classes with the best attendance.
This month’s theme from Action for Happiness is Self-Care September
Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s essential. No-one’s perfect. But so often we compare our insides to other people’s outsides. This month they’re encouraging everyone to be kinder to themselves (as well as others), especially when things go wrong. Self-care increases our resilience and helps us get more out of life. It also helps us accept others as they are too.
Please continue to stay safe and look after each other
Wow, we have got to our last week of term, although it didn’t turn out as we expected. Well done to all of the children and staff who have had to self-isolate this week; we know that this is always a challenge, and we have been thinking of you all. Thank you to all the children who have been accessing home learning via Showbie.
We would like to thank you for all your support with your child’s learning this year and for supporting the academy during what has been a very challenging time. We are so proud of how the children adapted to the changes, and we wish everyone a lovely and relaxing summer break.
We would like to say goodbye and GOOD LUCK to our wonderful Year 6 children. We can’t believe you have come to the end of your time at Dormanstown, and we hope you have lots of happy memories to take with you to the next step in your journey. The children have put together a Leavers Video that you will be able to see via FaceBook later today.
Dear parent/carer,
We would like to inform you that from September there will be some changes to academy staffing.
We would like to wish Miss Hand nothing but the very best in her retirement and thank her for all that she has done here in the academy. Miss Norton will be joining Wilton Primary Academy on secondment for a year and will continue to have a huge impact within the trust.
Mrs Patterson, Miss Rumins and Miss Seddon will be leaving the Academy, and whilst not within the trust, we are sure that they will continue to impact on children’s education within the surrounding area for many years to come.
We cannot stress enough how fortunate our pupils, families and colleagues have been to have worked with you all; a huge thank you from everybody connected with Dormanstown.
We are pleased to welcome Mr Mount (Assistant Head of Academy), Miss Hogarth (Year 4 Class Teacher) and Mrs Gruenfeld (SEND Class Teacher) to our teaching team. In addition to this, Miss Cockburn (Nursery Learning Assistant) and Mrs Fitzgerald (Year 4 Learning Assistant) will also be joining the academy; we are sure they will receive a very warm welcome from everyone in our community.
I would like to thank you all for your support and commitment in what has been an incredibly challenging year for us all. Rest assured, that you should all be incredibly proud of how your children have adapted and responded to new routines, national lockdowns and bubble closures. Not only have your children displayed resilience beyond their years but, despite the many obstacles along the way, they have made excellent progress in their learning both socially and academically. This is testament to their families and of course themselves!
A round of applause too for every member of staff here in the academy. They have continuously displayed all of our core values of aspiration, inspiration and collaboration to ensure that the outcomes at the end of this very strange year are truly a cause for celebration! Thank you; now time for some rest!
Each and every child in our academy is a true star and we simply cannot wait to open up our gates again in September as we look towards a smooth and harmonious year ahead.
We wish you all a restful summer full of sunshine and fun and thank you all once again for continued support.
Oliver Long
Head of Academy

What an eventful week it has been, with a number of bubbles unfortunately having to self-isolate and work at home. We are thinking of you all, and hope you are keeping in touch with your teachers and friends via Showbie.
Our assembly theme on Monday was Motivation and Drive, and we discussed how these qualities are needed by a range of sports men and women, especially tennis and football stars at the moment, as well as those competing in the Tokyo Olympics later this month. We reflected on when we had used those qualities as well. On Wednesday, Mr Long talked about Honesty, as part of our Character Education work.
Next week, all children will be moving to their new year group/classroom and working with their new teacher and learning assistant. They will be undertaking an exciting project on “The Olympics”.
To avoid any confusion, all children will be collected and dismissed from their existing doors/areas at their current start and finishing times. Look out for some Home Learning ideas for over the summer holidays that we would appreciate you supporting your children with please.

What a busy week we had in the academy! All classes have taken part in a Sports morning or afternoon with a range of activities on the school field. The children showed some amazing sportsmanship and support for each other, and we were lucky to have the weather on our side all week. Thank you to Mr Campbell for organising the week.
Year 6 and Year 5 have both had exciting STEM projects in the academy linked to the Windfarms being built off our coast which have again involved super collaboration and applied knowledge from a range of subjects.
Our assembly theme on Monday was Aspiration/Ambition and Mr Campbell talked about the journey Gareth Southgate has been on from missing a penalty kick in 1996 to being the successful England football manager he s today. On Wednesday, Mr Long continued to look at Gratitude, as part of our Character Education work.
Let’s keep up our push for great attendance until the end of the summer term. Remember, it is important that children are in school every day.

Due to the Covid19 pandemic there have been many pressures placed on individuals, children and families. This has led to differences in when and what people drink at home.
The purpose of this survey is to find out about how the COVID-19 pandemic and related issues such as lockdown, altered working patterns or furlough have affected the amount of alcohol you consume.
The results of this survey will be sent to Professor Dorothy Newbury-Birch and Dr Andrew Divers at the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Law at Teesside University.
No one will be identified when writing up the results and you do not need to give any identifiable information however if you wish to be included in a draw for one of five £10.00 gift vouchers, please leave your email at the end of the survey.
The survey takes less than two minutes to complete. If you have a spare couple of minutes, please can you complete the survey to support our colleagues at Teesside University and improve life chances in the future.
