Blog – 21st January 2022

All the children have been really focused on their learning this week, enjoying getting into their new themes in the curriculum areas.

Monday’s assembly was based on Commitment and we continued our Character Education theme of friendliness.  We returned to our face to face assemblies this week.

Litter Picking

As part of ‘Weeks in Action’ members of our Junior Leadership Team were asked to support Nichola Laverick (Community Support Officer), PCSO Craig Metcalf and Councillor Cawley with a litter pick in the local community of Dormanstown.  The children were a real credit to the academy and really supported the appearance of our local community.

HeadStart

Julie Wilson, our HeadStart programme assistant, is working weekly with a group of Year 4 and 5 children to train them to become HeadStarters.  They will then support other children in the academy.

Blog – 14th January 2022

Happy New Year to everyone, and we hope you had a lovely, relaxing Christmas break.

This week, our virtual assemblies were based on the theme of New Year’s Resolutions on Monday and our new Character Education virtue was friendliness on Wednesday.  We hope to return to in person assemblies this coming week.

Ladies of Steel

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Ladies of Steel who gave a Christmas selection box to every child in the academy on Tuesday 21st December. The volunteers came dressed in festive costumes and really put a smile on all the children’s faces.

Take a look on our Gallery page to see more photos from this exciting event.

Morning Club and After School Clubs

Morning Club with Mr Campbell will resume next week for the KS2 children who have been booked in by parents.

After School clubs will be as follows:

Monday – EYFS Multisports

Tuesday – Year 3 & 4 Gymnastics

Thursday – Year 1 & 2 Gymnastics

Thursday – Year 5 & 6 Cooking

If you asked for your child to attend, you will receive a letter today to confirm their place for next week.

Diamond Standard Awards

Congratulations to the following children and staff who were awarded a Diamond Standard award at the end of the autumn term.  They were nominated by staff or children to achieve this important award. Please see Mr Long’s video congratulating all the winners on the last day of term.

Layla Earl for Care

Layla always tidies up after other at playtime. She does so without ever having to be asked, but will always do her bit to keep the yard tidy every day without fail. She has been a fantastic support to all the lunchtime staff this year.

Miss Arkless for Courage

For teachers moving to new year groups, it takes courage to learn the new curriculum and expectations – this is particularly true in Y6. Miss Arkless has embraced her new position, and planned fantastic work which has allowed the Y6 children to shine. Her love of reading has inspired her students to great things, and she has been a fantastic role model to her class.

Spencer Mitchell for Commitment

Spencer has shown his deep love of reading this term, embracing a wide range of texts of various genre. He always achieves his golden ticket, and is so enthusiastic and committed to get his nose back into a good story whenever he has finished his work.

Evangeline Lumley for Curiosity

Evangeline is such a kind child. She is always seeking out new people to play with, and learning new skills from the other children on the playground. Her curiosity shines through as she involves herself in games and conversations with children from all age groups.

Young Voices

We have been allocated a new date for the choir Young Voices singing event in Sheffield which is Thursday 28th April 2022.  Choir members have received a letter about this, and we still have some spaces available on the bus if any more choir members would like to attend this event. Blog – 10th December 2021

This week, our assemblies were based on the theme of Mutual Respect and Tolerance  on Monday and we reviewed all our Character Education virtues.

Trust Carol Service

Choir worked really hard on Wednesday recording their 5 songs for the Trust Carol Service.  A green screen was used by Mr Stogdale, and he will combine our singing and readers with the work from the other academies. Thank you to parents and carers for ensuring the children were here on time and looking immaculate in their choir uniform. We look forward to seeing the final Carol Service which we will put on the website and social media.

Christingle

We undertook our Christingle service virtually on Monday.  Many thanks to Miss Riley for organising the service and Mrs Smuk and Mr Nixon for preparing choir. All the children watched and joined in with the service from their classrooms after making their Christingle.

To view all photographs from this event, check out our Gallery page!

After School Clubs

Due to Covid advice, morning club will be cancelled until the end of term as well as Key Stage 2 after school clubs.

KS1 art club will still go ahead on Wednesday

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Nursery New Starters

If anyone has a child who will turn 3 years old during this academic year, please make sure they are registered for a place in Nursery. Contact the school office to put your child’s name down, so Mrs Marsh can contact you at the appropriate time prior to your child starting.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council encourages low income working age families to claim a ‘Household Support Payment’. The support is funded by the DWP and is intended to assist low-income families over the winter period.

Blog – 3rd December 2021

This week, our assemblies were based on the theme of Patience on Monday (leading into Advent) with our Character Education virtue of kindness continuing on Wednesday.

It was lovely to get our Christmas tree up and look festive around the Academy.

Bulb Planting in the Community

Some of our Junior Leadership Team represented us in the community with bulb planting opposite the Dormanstown shops.  Despite the cold and wet weather, they were a real credit to our academy working alongside Councillor Cawley, the new PCSO, Craig Metcalfe, the Community Development Officer, Nichola Laverick, as well as volunteers from Westfield Farm. We look forward to seeing the bulbs come through in the spring and be available for everyone in Dormanstown to enjoy.

Year 3

Year 3 have been developing their communication skills in computing. Take a look at these interactive posters that tell you about some exciting events happening this December!

Uniform

Children are expected to attend the academy wearing full school uniform and we would like parents to assist us in keeping these high standards. If you have any difficulties with your child’s school uniform, please contact the academy office and we may be able to help.

Shoe Boxes

Thank you for all the generous contributions of items for the shoe boxes; we will pass them onto the charity “Teesside at Christmas Appeal” to distribute.

Trust Carol Service

This event will now be recorded for parents/carers to enjoy.  Our recording will take place on Wednesday 8th December at 9am.  Please can choir children arrive promptly to school so that they can get into their choir uniform ready for the recording.

Nursery New Starters

If you or anyone you know has a child who will turn 3 years old during this academic year, please make sure they are registered for a place in Nursery. Contact the school office to put your child’s name down, so Mrs Marsh can contact you at the appropriate time prior to your child starting.

Nasal Spray Catch up Clinics

Childhood Immunisation Team have put in place some catch up clinics for any pupils who missed immunisation within school. Please see the dates and times below.

Action for Happiness- Do Good December

This month’s theme is December Kindness: daily actions to help you be kind and help others. Perfectly linked to our recent Character Education work.

Dates for your Diary

COVID update

Due to increased COVID cases, we ask that parents wear a face covering when speaking to staff, coming to Reception or attending any meetings.

Please continue to stay behind the line on the plaza when bringing and collecting your child from the academy.

We also ask that children do not bring Christmas cards into school again this year to share with their friends.

Many thanks for your co-operation in this matter.

Lunch Menu

The menu for week beginning 6th December is Week 3. Please see below.

Christmas dinner will take place on Friday 17th December. A letter will be coming home with your child. Please send back the reply if your child would like a school dinner and payment of £2.10 if you are not entitled to Free School Meals.

Blog – 26th November 2021

This week, our assemblies were based on the theme of Teamwork on Monday with our Character Education virtue of kindness. These followed on well from the Children in Need theme of “One Kind Word” last week and the teamwork classes demonstrated when creating their dances.

Children in Need

We managed to raise £189.90 for Children in Need; thank you for all the kind donations sent in. The voting has been popular for the Strictly style dances created by each class. These are available via Facebook, and we will close the voting on Monday morning announcing the winners early next week.

Road Safety

Many thanks to the Fire Brigade who came into the academy on Monday and delivered three assemblies to highlight the importance of road safety.  The children took away very important messages that are particularly important as winter is approaching. Check out our Gallery page for more photographs!

Teesside at Christmas Appeal

We would like to support the Teesside at Christmas Appeal who are looking to give filled shoe boxes of gifts and essentials to those who would go without at Christmas. Please use the link below or look at the posters below to find details of what is recommended to go in the shoe boxes.  If anyone would like to donate a filled shoe box or to send items in that we can make boxes up in school, then please do so by Monday 29th November, so we can give them to this small, local charity.

Blog – 19th November 2021

This week, our assemblies were based on the Anti-Bullying Week theme of “One Kind Word” with Odd Socks Day on Monday celebrating individuality. We have also enjoyed Children in Need day, reminding children of the significance of this important charity.

Children in Need

The children enjoyed working on the theme this year which is ‘Together We Can’. Our dance competition has proved very popular and showed great teamwork.  Look out for the videos on FaceBook, where you can vote for your favourite dance. Thank you for all the donations brought in today; we will let you know how much we raised in due course.
