Weekly Round Up

During this busy week all the children have made a successful transition into their new classes.  This time has given them the opportunity to get to know their new teachers and learning assistants.  It has been lovely to welcome Miss Clark and Miss Lowrie to Dormanstown this week who are working with Year 2 and Year 3 respectively.

Thank you for everyone who attended sports day on Tuesday; it was great to see so many parents, carers and friends cheering their children on. There was so much participation, team work and great sports skills seen throughout the afternoon which was wonderful to see.

Our Diamond Standard winners were celebrated at the Trust Awards Ceremony at Middlesbrough Football Club on Thursday.  Many congratulations to all the winners this year, and a special well done to Matilda who won the overall Trust award for Curiosity – a fantastic achievement.

The Year 6 children had a great end to the week with a Careers and Enterprise Workshop led by Middlesbrough Football Club during the morning, followed by their end of year treat at Jump 360 in the afternoon. A great time was had by all.

We also gave the children an end of term celebration with a bouncy castle treat on Friday. Due to the impact Covid has had on attendance this year, each child got a turn on here this term.  However, next year, this will revert back to a 100% attendance and good behaviour treat for children who have achieved this. Friday also saw the children enjoy their Fish Friday Lunch provided by Mellors – it was another delicious end of term treat.

Our last day in the academy is Tuesday 19th July when the children will finish at normal time. We wish good luck to our Year 6 children as they move onto secondary school and hope everyone has a wonderful summer holiday. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 5th September.

Class Showcase

This week, our featured classes are Year 1 M, 3S, 4HM and B3G, so please enjoy reading what they have been learning about.

We had a fabulous afternoon with parents and helpers. The children enjoyed planning a miniature garden and picking different materials that they would use. They then worked together to create a garden on a paper plate. There was such a variety of gardens created. A super job by all.

Y3S

Year Three invited in parents and carers to share in their learning this half term. Based on the Vikings topic, children and adults worked together to create their own Viking warriors from clay, and it was lovely to see so many families in school together sharing in the children’s learning.

Year 4HM

Year 4 have really enjoyed taking their maths work outside. They have been using their problem solving techniques learnt over the year and applying them to a range of different maths problems. They have shown their ability to  collaboratively to solve them.

B3G

What a few weeks B3G have had. From swimming to transition to Sports Day, it’s been a busy one.

It was wonderful to see the children in the pool and watching them either achieve their 25m or grow in confidence as they moved effectively through the water. To end our focus on History we looked at the effects Margret Thatcher had on the North by focusing on the mining strikes through role play. And finally transitioning in our newbies to their new environment where they’ve all been exceptional as I’m sure you saw on Sports Day! Great effort B3G.

BLOG 8TH JULY 2022

Weekly Round Up

Thank you to everyone who supported our Summer Fayre on Tuesday after school.  The attendance from children, parents, carers and members of the community was fantastic. Thank you for all the donations received also. It was lovely to see such happy, smiling faces enjoying themselves in the sunshine.

Another busy week in the academy with 5H loving their Beamish trip and 2T visiting Danby Moors Centre. Thank you to all the parents/carers who attended the Parental Engagement afternoons for 1M, 3S, B1R and 5H – the children all appreciated your support with their activities and liked having you in school. It was also good to welcome our new Reception parents into school on Monday as well as a few tears being shed when the same group attended their children’s Nursery Graduation on Thursday.

The children should have received their school report on Friday, with the Year 6s receiving theirs on Monday when they return from transition.  Well done on everyone’s achievements this year, and please celebrate these with your child(ren).

All the children will move into their new class on Monday 11th July to transition and get settled in before September. Children will still come in and leave school for the last 7 days through their entrances they have used all year.

Finally, we look forward to welcoming parent/carers to Sports Day on Tuesday 12th July at 1.15pm. Access will be from the side gate next to nursery.

Class Showcase

This week, our featured classes are 2T and B2S, so please enjoy reading what they have been learning about.

YEAR 2

Year 2 have been busy. As part of our Art curriculum we have been looking at sculptures. The artist we studied was Alberto Giacometti. We had to think about How have Alberto Giacometti’s sculptures show emotions?

Giacometti was a Swiss sculpture who made sculptures with different emotions. So, we designed and made our own sculptures with different emotions using pipe cleaners, tin foil and clay. We had to think about all the skills we would need to create our sculptures. We used rolling, wrapping, twisting, mark making and smoothing.  We also had the joy of having our parents in and they helped us to recreate our sculptures.  Some emotions we created were sad, lonely, happy and excited.

B2S

Over the last couple of weeks, the children in B2S have been busy creating clay sculptures in the style of Alberto Giacometti as part of their art projects and baking cupcakes as par of their D+T.

The children worked with their parents to create clay sculptures. They were able to roll, squeeze, squash and manipulate their clay to make their final design. I think the parents enjoyed it just as much as the parents.

In D+T, the children followed a recipe to bake their own cupcakes. They weighed, sieved, mixed and beat the ingredients before putting them in the oven. When they were cool, the children made chocolate butter icing to decorate them. I am sure they will tell you their favourite part was the taste testing afterwards!

BLOG 1ST JULY 2022

Weekly Round Up

What a great end to the week we have had with the TVED Book of the Year awards at Middlesbrough Football Club today. We were able to take a selection of children to enjoy the awards and meet and listen to the authors present. We want to say a HUGE thank you to Mr Mount who organised the event for all the academies in the Trust. The experience of reading such a wonderful mix of texts has really extended the children’s exposure to quality texts and their enjoyment of reading.

We look forward to welcoming more parents into the academy next week for our Summer Fayre on Tuesday, Nursery Graduation on Thursday and our parental engagement afternoons.

We also wish the Year 6 children who are on transition next week lots of luck at their new school.  We are sure having the time at your new school will support you in September, and we look forward to seeing you back on Monday 11th July.

Class Showcase

This week, our featured classes are Nursery, RB and B1R, so please enjoy reading what they have been learning about.

B1R and Nursery

On Thursday 6th June, B1R and Nursery enjoyed a trip to Hardwick Park to take part in a Very Hungry Caterpillar workshop. It was a brilliant day! We went on a Hungry Caterpillar food trail, made our own butterflies, had a minibeast hunt and went for a walk around the beautiful park. We even bumped into the Gruffalo!

RB

Reception visited Newham Grange Farm to learn all about farming.

We had a tour around the large livestock and found out lots of interesting facts about the animals. We also stroked and held the guinea pigs, rabbits and tortoise. The children has a great time in the discovery room, observing the bees, and we had fun milking a cow.

Later we played mini golf and had fun at the park.

It was an amazing day that that we will never forget.
