DROP OFF AND PICK UP

Thank you for supporting our slightly adjusted drop off and pick up arrangements to allow us to make this as safe as possible for everybody.

BREAKFAST PACKS

We hope that everyone enjoyed their breakfast packs that were sent home and the cereal, porridge and bagels proved useful to support your child with eating breakfast. These will continue to be sent every fortnight with the children.

FLU VACCINATIONS

Flu vaccination forms have been sent home this week and need to be returned by Monday 28th September. It is just a simple spray in the nose.

READING

Reading is such an important life skill and is required in all areas of learning. Please ensure your child reads at least 4 times per week and record this in their reading record. In order to develop your child’s understanding of the text, please talk to them about what they have read and ask them questions about it.

Hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

Parents of children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3

Thank you for your co-operation in making the drop off and pick up times a safe and orderly part of the day.

In response to updated government guidelines, we are making a slight change to the drop off arrangements in the plaza to ensure social distancing is adhered to and to avoid groups gathering for longer than required:

  • Please do not enter the plaza before 8:45am
  • Arrive as closely to the allocated time as possible
  • Send your child straight to their teacher’s line
  • Leave the plaza as soon as your child is in line

There will be a 5 minute ‘window’ after which your child will be marked as late.

New drop off times:

Nursery 8:55 – 9:00
Reception 8:50 – 8:55
Year 1 8:45 – 8:50
Year 2 8:45 – 8:50
Year 3 8:45 – 8:50

Once again, thank you for your continued support in making sure we keep our community safe.

Breakfast Packs

Our breakfast packs have arrived through the National School Breakfast Programme, and all the children will be bringing their pack home.  This will include cereal, bagels and porridge to provide enough breakfasts for 2 weeks. These will continue to be delivered fortnightly.

School Lunches

We have had lots of positive comments about the changes to the academy lunches this week, and the children have been enthusiastic about the range of choices available.

Reading Books

The children have started bringing their reading books home on a Monday to read at home. Please can they be returned on a Friday with their reading record to change for a new book. Remember reading at home can take many forms such as comic books, menus, song lyrics, even favourite DVDs or games with subtitles on the screen!

It would be most helpful and protect our books if children have a book bag to transport their book to and from school (see the uniform page for details of how to order).

Art Project

All the children in the academy have participated in a project equipping them with the skills and techniques to draw their own self-portrait. We have a wonderful range of work, and the children made such progress over this short project.

Information Sheets

Thank you to everyone who has returned information forms. Please return any outstanding sheets to the academy please as soon as possible so our records can be updated. We also need your consent for children to participate in the new Lexia program.

School Lunches

To comply with government guidelines, we have needed to change the way we serve lunches to ensure school ‘bubbles’ do not mix and that all children remain safe throughout the school day.

In response to feedback from parents and children, we will be revising our menu from next week. As of Monday, there will now be three hot options for children to choose from (and always two topping options for jacket potatoes) each day.

As always, we embrace any feedback and are constantly reflecting and refining our systems to ensure we offer the best possible experience for our pupils as well as ensuring absolute safety within the academy.

Thank you for your continued support.

Breakfast Packs

As part of our participation in the National School Breakfast Programme, we will be taking delivery of our first breakfast packs of the term next week.  All children will be bringing them home. These will include cereal, bagels and porridge to provide enough breakfasts for 2 weeks.

All children will also be provided with fruit for a breaktime snack.

Information Sheets

Please return updated information request sheets to the academy as soon as possible, and thank you to everyone who has already done so. It is really important that we have up to date contact and medical details about your child and that the other agreements are returned.

Marvellous Me

Teachers will continue to send messages via Marvellous Me to share information about your children. If you require any updated log in details, please contact the academy office.

Art Project

All the children have been undertaking a whole school portraits art project over these first two weeks.  Ask your child about the techniques they have learnt and the successes they have had. We are using the work to update our academy entrance display (photos to follow).

Choir

As we are unable to have choir in school at the current time, please continue to look out for new song videos, posted weekly on Facebook and led by Mr Nixon, for the children to  practice at home.

A Big Thank You

We just want to say a huge THANK YOU to the Ladies of Steel and all the associated support linked to the summer weekend packed lunch deliveries.  Over 4500 lunches have been delivered during the last few months – an amazing achievement!

We are so grateful to the Coronavirus Community Support Fund distributed by The National Lottery Community FundBeyond Housing UK, Redcar, Marske and New Marske Coronavirus Support Service, local volunteers,  Beyond Housing and of course the Ladies of Steel team led by Chris and Debbie. You have made such a positive impact on our community.

Hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

Remember wash hands, cover face, make space.

Dormanstown Blog 4th September 2020

What an amazing start to the new term we have had this week.

Thank you to all the children for their hard work and coping with all our new systems and procedures so well. We also want to thank all our parents and carers for following the drop off and pick up times so well.  This has made a huge difference to everything running so smoothly.

We are sending new consent forms home next week for various activities within the academy. Please return these in the envelopes they are sent home in, so we are able to quarantine them on return to the academy.

If your child is in Year 4 and upwards, and you would like them to be a walker, please complete a form at the main office.

We look forward to welcoming more nursery children into school from next week.

For those of you who have liked seeing the wellbeing calendars during the partial closure, we have “Self-Care September” which has some useful tips on looking after ourselves.

Have a lovely weekend, and stay safe.
