We believe that a good school is one which has high expectations of its pupils both academically and with regard to their social, emotional and behavioural development.
Dormanstown Primary Academy is justifiably proud of the way that children behave in school and also within the community. Through the curriculum, schools ethos and the opportunities given to pupils, they mature into responsible young citizens who are able to make a valuable contribution to their school and community.
Pupil behaviour is based around our academy promise. The aim of the promise is to enable children to behave with consideration and respect for themselves, each other and staff in school.
Problems and difficulties will not be ignored but approached in a constructive manner. We believe that every child is entitled to attend a school which is safe and free from bullying. A zero tolerance policy operates and we are proactive in developing an understanding of the behaviours which are deemed to be unkind or bullying. Parents are encouraged to contact school to make us aware of incidents that may not have come to our attention. We are committed to working in close partnership with parents and carers. These policies have resulted in our school being a calm, safe and happy environment. Children tell us that they know what to do if they have a problem or are unhappy. School has been awarded the Bullying Charter for Action.
Promoting a positive environment for our pupils underpins all of our work. Raising self-esteem through the use of praise, reward systems and opportunities to take responsibility enables our young people to become independent young people. Children are given numerous opportunities to take responsibilities and contribute to the life of our school.
